2008 Dear National Media: Get Some New Analogies

onHillary Clinton is not “Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction.” (That’s the character who stalks Michael Douglas, who tries to drown her, only to have her pop up from the tub and try to stab him.)
She is not a pregnant bride-to-be in a “shotgun marriage.”
She is not “Mommie Dearest.”
She is not a “grieving widow.”
And she is not a goddamned punching bag.*
Please make a note of it.
P.S. You know that stuff like this just helps her, right?

* Sorry, but you can’t tell me that hitting a woman—with the goal of giving her bruises all over her face—doesn’t have specific, disturbing, connotations.

Erica, do you really think that phrase "punching bag" is a gender-specific phrase? Really? I never have thought about it that way, just like I've never thought the phrase "blacklisted" was racial.
Agreed on Glenn Close though, Mommie Dearest, etc.
I agree with all of that except, well Erica, Hillary IS Mommie Dearest.
She's a bunny boiler.
Mommy Dearest doesn't stand. By any standard the Clintons were better parents than the Bushes, despite all of the GOP family values rhetoric. Chelsea was never found to be drinking with fake ID while underage, Bush twins--both were. Chelsea never had a drunken boyfriend drop her on the White House dance floor, one of the Bush twins did. Chelsea graduated from a prestigious university with honors. The Bush twins graduated, barely. Chelsea has her own professional career, Jenna helped her mother write a lame kid's book.
... and that is why Ann Coulter and I agree, Hilary should get the nomination.
Sorry, but you can’t tell me that hitting a man—with the goal of giving him bruises all over his face—doesn’t have specific, disturbing, connotations.
I want to see Annie Wagner vs. ECB in the internet boxing. It'd be like reading the Slog without all that hard reading and stuff.
Surely all these statements should have AS FAR AS I KNOW appended to them?
Um, "punching bag" was actually my description of the punching game at the link. So, to answer your question, no.
Erica!
You are totally right about the idiot sexist media. (Not just saying that to get you to keep reading. As much as I have a distaste for Hillary, the press is throwing out some serious bullshit.)
Now, can we please discuss the gas tax holiday. HILLARY'S gas tax holiday. That matters too.
Please! @10 You are so right. We should be talking about Hillary joining McCain in not wanting to role back the tax cuts!
Sorry, but you can’t tell me that hitting a woman—with the goal of giving her bruises all over her face—doesn’t have specific, disturbing, connotations.
It doesn't if da' bitch don't listen.
I just wasted a good 10 minutes with that game.
Thanks, Erica!
But she is Tracy Flick isn't she still? Wasn't that from Slate?
She isn't any of those things.
But she also is not going to be President.
Bygones.
I agree, Erica. While I lean slightly more towards Obama, stuff like this makes me want to see Hillary win bad.
What she is, is a "liar." Duh.
The game allows you play either Obama or Clinton and beat the other until there are bruises on their face, so why would you include this as an example of of the media specifically attacking Hillary or making an analogy between her and a punching bag?
Are you completely unaware of your own sexism?
I'm sorry, the correct analogy for Hillary Clinton is "Norma Desmond." We were looking for Norma Desmond, so sorry. But, you still have the trip to Antigua and the new barcalounger. Thanks again for playing "Analogize This!"
Oh, this is so couple of months ago. Haven't you seen, Obama is now the media's punching bag. They haven't said anything bad about Hillary since she whined about always getting the first question in debates. (To most politicians getting the 1st question is considered an advantage.) While Hillary appears with O'reilley, the media continues it's pile on, on Obama.
