Visual Art Byrne (Burn) on Broad

onThanks to the marvelous Sasha Anawalt on ARTicles, I just finished reading David Byrne’s entertainingly disinterested account of going to the Broad Contemporary Art Museum opening with Cindy Sherman, whom he refers to only as “C.”
I got myself down to BCAM (in LA) on the first day it was open to the public, back in February. With the exception of the “C” room, it was flashy, flashy, flashy, and dull, dull, dull.

So, a perfect reflection of LA!
Yech, what an ugly photo.
Maybe I’m just a simpleton, but I’ve been to my fair share of big-time museums worldwide, and seeing the BCAM was one of the best museum experiences I’ve ever had. From the Barbara Krueger elevator, to the Damien Hirst installations, and yes, the C room, everything was top-notch. I was *giddy*.
Cindy Sherman...a bit over rated. She had her moment, most of which was pre-"film stills." Since then she has vainly tried to recreate the work that gave her fame.
