It's an invitation for vandalism. This doesn't look bad now, but just wait until some kids on speed get a hold of some spray paint and are super high from the fumes. That will be the real bummer.

Now, now, Sargon - just because one has reached their early 30's, doesn't mean they can't have an occasional burst of youthful pranksterism - assuming of course that this stuff is water-soluble and bio-degradeable.

In fact, I'd say many of the surly, churlish curmudgeons doing the virtual equivalant of trying to chase the kids off the vacant lot next door could well use a few moments of such youthful exhuberance and joi d' vivre - if only to help loosen up those tightly clenched sphincters and allow for some healthy colonic peristalsis.

Hey, before you all trip over yourselves being too PC and too "down with the youth" to say that vandalizing sculpture in a public park is a dick move, I talked to the Parks people trying to clean it up.
It's NOT water soluble, it's NOT biodegradable, it's NOT coming off, it'll take a long time to clean and they'll be shutting down the fountain until they can get it off somehow.

I work near - high quality real paint - a hell of a time removing it - parks people are very angry, and so am I.

Not funny, witty or artistic. Three months of county jail time will be so hip for someone.

It is a great park, just for hanging out. (secret, sorta cruisey in the pm, take your dog with you, and a pint and a joint)

Fountains are much beloved by the public but are expensive to maintain so things like this further discourage public entities from installing them. I used to think soap bubbles in a fountain were funny until I found out that draining and cleaning a large fountain costs several hundreds of dollars. Paint can ruin the filters so it can then cost thousands to fix. When "youthful joie de vivre" damages other peoples' or public property it is vandalism.

Okay, non-biodegradable, non-water soluble, toxic paint = BAD, I completely agree, and again thanks for the clarification on that @16.

And before the knee-jerking mouth-breathers out there start crying "hypocrite!", as will invariably be the case, please note I did make a qualification to that effect in my original post. A little youthful joi d' vivre that doesn't fuck up anything except people's narrow-minded perceptions is one thing; but even my uber-liberal POV recognizes this transgresses beyond simple innocuous, joyful pranksterism.

@29: the above-ground fountains at Cal Anderson are NOT in any way connected to the city water reservoir below-ground (after all they let kids and dogs play in 'em, and you know how they are around water) so no worries on that particular point.

It's a bad 80s vomit nightmare, not a welcome sight on my slog through the park on my way to work. It mixes perfectly with all the garbage that collects in the grates at the bottom of the fountain. Of course, the vandal probably loves all this attention and incensed dialogue. For that I will regret this post.
