Tech And If They’re Not Sold Yet…

Please enjoy* this lovely once-internal Microsoft video, extolling the virtues of Windows Vista SP1.
Putting aside the issue of how much money this video must have cost to produce, who could possibly think this was a good idea? Even if it didn’t leak online—which it inevitably did—is this really supposed to motivate Windows sales reps to anything besides ritual suicide? How much Kool-Aid would one have to drink to think this was non-horrifying?
Note to giant corporations with no sense of humor: stop trying.
Lest we forget:
*video not actually enjoyable

It was meant to be a spoof. As in, a spoof of bad motivational videos.

i spent the better part of last year writing shit just like that for microsoft (or, um, a microsoft-like company, um...)...far, far better, naturally. so much better in fact, they scrapped all three 20 minute "webisode" (i know) commercials in the final hour, after full production, because they were too racey, showed too much skin, and mixed "chinese and japanese elements" in such a way as would offend the world and cause WWIII, apparently. and they keep THIS horrible piece of shit? god save us all. stop trying indeed.
It's not funny as a spoof either. It's possibly worse.
Wow. Have they really forgotten why people use computers THAT MUCH?
News flash - an OS should be faster. Not twice as slow. It should work better. Not worse.
Sigh.
Ouch. That hurt to watch, spoof or no.
oh shit oh jesus...i just listened to "we built this strabucks", and now. i want. to DIE.
ps--anthony? @ 3? a-fucking-men.
@6 Yeah, I thought the Starbucks thing was just cruel and unusual punishment on top of the video. I think my ears are bleeding.
I dunno, industrials like this one are some of the only paying acting work around. Many of my friends rely on this stuff to fund their actual art-making activities. Don't begrudge those hard-working actors, writers, musicians, independent movie makers and production staff their livelihood! They suffer enough knowing how bad this stuff sucks.
Note to big, humorless corporations: Keep making videos that employ local talent. You'll get it right one day!
That song should not be replayed for at least 25 years.
Wow, it's like "The 'Star Wars' Christmas Special" of sales motivational videos! I'm surprised Bill didn't keep this buried in a vault somewhere.
And clearly, the entire E Street Band was either bought off, or, will probably settle out-of-court.
And @8: If I see THIS on the resume of anyone I know, I'm just going to cry for them.
well, that was a few thousand dollars well spent.
@10,
I think, or hope, the idea is to get the money and not mention it ever again.
All I could think of was: "Make it STOP!"
So I did.
I imagine most of these folks have already lost their teeth to the meth addiction that drove them to participate in such a thing. Sad that, in't it.
You just wish you got paid like we do.
Cha-ching!
That wasn't Courtney Cox.
i don't know, i found that thoroughly enjoyable. what a great pick me up at the start of the day.
i enjoy thinking about a sales rep playing the video in the conference room of a sheet metal fabrication plant in muncie, indiana and sealing the deal with zest.
Maybe it didn't cost all that much to put together...they might have used a Mac for video production.
Lots to criticize in this vid. agreed w/ comment #3. And it's so weird that they would have a white guy playing the sax next to the clapping black guy who was supposed to be Clarence Clemens (e street bands sax player). Why not have the black guy play the sax? So weird.
That was all really bad. What is the point of really bad????
