News Advice to Olmert & Abbas from… The Slog!

onToday’s headline: The Israelis and the Palestinians (at least those represented by Abbas and Fatah) have resumed peace talks.
If I was a betting man, I’d guess the headlines later this week will be about bombs going back and forth between Gaza and Israel.
Advice: Don’t halt the peace talks when the attacks start. The attacks highlight the very reason for the peace talks.
I know Abbas and Olmert think they look bad to their constituencies to be talking to each other while the other side is lobbing bombs, but actually, it will make them look like courageous heroes, it will highlight the point, and it will ultimately isolate the war pigs.

Good advice - doubt they'll take it.
Time to bring our troops home and relegate the Middle East to the inside business pages of "Energy Sources we don't care about".
Uh, maybe you should email them instead.
We tried that, but gmail is bouncing from their servers, @2.
This assumes that either Abbas or Olmert really want peace. I'm not so sure--it seems like both support a Palestinian state in name only, with the predictable result that violence will continue from those who oppose a two-state solution entirely and from those who want a Palestinian state that's something other than a de facto Israeli prison.
@4,
Exactly. They welcome the attacks. It gives them the opportunity to grandstand and toss any progress out the window.
