That was back when she was fun and played along, too! Check out the comments:

My god, you guys are boring. Can you please try to refrain from saying the same exact my-kid-could-have-done-that shit on every post -- which, anyway, involves JPEGs of art that you haven't seen? Giuliani, anybody? Blah, blah, blah. If you can't write anything interesting, come to Slog!
Posted by Jen Graves | June 13, 2007 8:12 PM

P.S. No, it isn't an actual tarp, you tools. But you wouldn't find that out unless you actually listened to the podcast.

Why do idiots come out of the woodwork when it comes to art as opposed to sports or cooking or movies? Or are the idiots everywhere?
Posted by Jen Graves | June 13, 2007 8:14 PM

Hisssssssssssssss!!! Growl! I love you, Jen. Seriously.

The latter day version: ho-hum. It's not a very interesting spin on the original import-tax story, and, while blocks of metal can sometimes be beautiful to look at, there's no reason to go to a museum to see one. And the suspending on air cushions seems visually awkward without adding any special insight. SAM has way too many third-rate pieces (some by first-rate artists) in their collection; from the photo this seems like one of them.

the blue tarp IS amazing. even in person, it still is mindblowing how much you want to believe it's a tarp. if you're familiar with whiting's body of work, i just think it puts it in context. it was one of my favorites pieces at the Traces and Accumulations show (which also featured Hirst, Currin and Schabel). it's seriously a transcendent piece of art.

Oh Mr. Poe, I wasn't trying to convince you. I'm just sharing my opinion, too. I know you'll never like the blue tarp. It's way out of line with other pieces you've mentioned liking -- like the light bulb one.

As a dear artist friend frequently says, "There's enough room at the art table for everyone."
