Racism is absolutely fabulous.

Does this mean racism is the "new gay"? That racists have had to be closeted for the past 20 years but now they are "coming out"?

Posted by elswinger | April 18, 2008 1:09 PM

"What's wrong with being racy?"

"Misogyny is so gay" would work equally well as long as "retarded" slogans are de rigueur.

Frankly, the use of the usual vulgarities (Carlin's Guide) has become bloggily acceptable (albeit lame), but the use of "retarded" to make your point shows vocabulary retardation and insensitivity to those of us who are actually retarded.

That shirt is retarded.

I LOVE YOU, ADRIAN!

Posted by Soupytwist | April 18, 2008 1:33 PM
6

Black = Gay = Bad.

This shirt was designed by a moron.

Posted by UNPAID BLOGGER | April 18, 2008 1:36 PM
7

soupytwist? are you sure your not mr poe? you sound like mr. poe.

Posted by adrian | April 18, 2008 1:36 PM
8

"you're", not "your". jesus, i know i know. sorry. god i hate the english fucking language.

Posted by adrian | April 18, 2008 1:38 PM
9

But wouldn't it look sooooo cute with gold lame leggings and giant sunglasses?

No? No.

That shirt is awful.

Posted by tabletop_joe | April 18, 2008 1:38 PM
10

Mr. Poe has never been worried about offending people. He doesn't have to hide behind an alias (other than "Mr. Poe."

Posted by elswinger | April 18, 2008 1:39 PM
11

Mr. Poe is also nursing a hangover today.

Posted by Bellevue Ave | April 18, 2008 1:41 PM

That reminds me a t-shirt I designed once: "homophobia is so gay." Of course the intent was compeltely different and stupidly jokey.

Posted by Jay | April 18, 2008 1:43 PM
13

No, not Mr. Poe. Not even a troll, really. Long time lurker/reader who occasionally pipes up.

I know Fnarf from another internet location - though I doubt he remembers me.

But you are my favorite, Adrian. :)

Posted by Soupytwist | April 18, 2008 1:43 PM

@8 that was a retarded mistake Adrian.

Waaaaaaaa I don't get this shirt. If they are trying to say racism is bad, then they are saying being gay is bad and that's not good. If they are trying to say racism is good by saying it's gay then that's not good either. Racism bad. Gay good.

Makes me think of the WONDERFUL homophobes in the NBA actually ... the ones that kind of flipped out when that guy in Utah retired, and came out of the closet.

OR the fact that much of the black community (Farakan, Alan Keyes) hasn't exactly embrased gay rights either.

I'm just saying.

haha, dude, I had 2 gatorades for breakfast and a beer at lunch. I havent seen aislinn or john on today so i assume they too are suffering.

Posted by Bellevue Ave | April 18, 2008 1:58 PM

I'm drinking a beer right now. At work. It's the only thing that works.

Posted by infrequent | April 18, 2008 2:21 PM

I predict that Aleksa Manilla will, at some point, wear this shirt while hosting a charity gig.

po' Mr Poe...

silence=death=a nasty ass hangover

@22

You're out of the loop. We all hang out because we're (inarguably) the coolest people in this city, and I work with Bellevue Ave's dad, which has nothing to do with our hanging outery.

Posted by Mr. Poe | April 18, 2008 2:30 PM
25

Sorry, Adrian, I'm not your type. :(

Ours will be a platonic love. :)

It's a joke.

Posted by Jason Josephes | April 18, 2008 2:40 PM

@22 Slog is like high school. Mr. Poe, Bellevue Ave. etc. are the "in" crowd and they hang out together and then taunt the rest of us with it because we aren't hip and ironic enough to be included.

Frankly, my mother lied to me, the real world is EXACTLY like high school.

Posted by PopTart | April 18, 2008 2:51 PM

I don't mind using the word retarded, because I liken it to "that's something only a person with diminished mental capacity would say or do."

But, then again, I probably wouldn't say it around my friend who has a mentally retarded brother, so take that for what it's worth.

I like the Homophobia is so gay, or the Misogyny is so gay ideas better.

Posted by Julie | April 18, 2008 2:52 PM

I was also just picturing someone wearing the reverse shirt: “Homophobia is so Black.”

Yeah. That would go over well.

Posted by Julie | April 18, 2008 2:54 PM

I think it's funny. I'm sure I'm a terrible person and all. It's not the best joke I've ever heard, but I smiled at it.

Posted by Tizzle | April 18, 2008 3:00 PM

oh oh. i didn't know an actual person was behind that, with feelings and all. i thought it...well...i'm not going to tell you what i thought because it involved manure and at least one mexican, but sorry if i hurt anyone's feelings. i think. jesus, how can anyone tell anymore?

Posted by adrian | April 18, 2008 3:11 PM

Racism is so Happy!

poptart, infrequent, et al.

Poe works with my dad. He, Aislinn, W7ngman, my GF and I all went to Moe Bar last night.

And I can't believe that anyone could possibly be annoyed or put off or derisive of people hanging out with one another beyond the blog. It isn't like we are excluding people except for cunts like Ari Spool.

Posted by Bellevue Ave | April 18, 2008 4:25 PM

It exposes the taboo truth that gay men are secretly prejudiced against black women.

Posted by K | April 18, 2008 4:26 PM

and we arent even hip and ironic. i think so many people in seattle have a misconception that unless you're a shut in, if you have even a few friends that you hang out with you are some kind of hipster or something. god forbid people become friends and go out and do stuff.

Posted by Bellevue Ave | April 18, 2008 4:28 PM

I was both nursing my own hangover (couldn't have been as bad as Poe's!) and busy at work today. Sorry, everyone.

And double sorry to infrequent, I totally should have called you. The next time we have a cool-Slog-kid meet-up, you'll be on the list.

@35, I'm sorry I made you mad, I was just teasing. Sometimes I don't understand where the line is on Slog between teasing and insulting but I guess I crossed it and I apologize.

@37 But thanks for making me cry by reminding me that I'm a total loser who has no friends and I appreciate @38 driving the point home.

poptart, email me at marcotyx@gmail.com and next time ill let you know when a few of us are getting drinks.

I wasn't that hungover, merely hurting for food, probably because I started with the jaeger shot (and chased it properly with whiskey, then beer) instead of ending with it (always bad news). I did chug some Gatorade last night, too.

Mr Poe, I believe, was shooting jaeger throughout the night, and surprised us with some very revealing hetero fantasies. He's such a closet case.

Sorry you felt taunted, PopTart. Aislinn's reference to 'cool kids' was clearly in jest. I think. She does have a rather inflated sense of her own coolness, though (that's probably going to land me in the doghouse tonight, if that makes you feel any better).

Unless you were talking about Poe, he probably *was* taunting you.

If you want to hang out we could arrange something. Or just show up to Slog Happy next time.

(Oh, and it's Jon)

About the t-shirt: I think it's just trying to be ironic and failing at it. And no, I wouldn't wear it. The colors aren't me.

I saw a similarly "ironic" t-shirt once that said "Homosexuality is gay!"

Posted by w7ngman | April 18, 2008 5:21 PM
44

In jest? Hardly. If you aren't hip and ironic, what's the point?

@PopTart: We don't just all magically know each other. We hang out because we took steps to contact one another outside of Slog and be friends (or, in the case of Bellevue Ave and I, we met at SCCC, totally unrelated to Slog). I don't see what the fuss is about. And, I'll reiterate the "come to Slog Happy" directive. That's how I met Poe and w7ngman and, uh, lots of people.

@41: I can't believe you just put your real email up, especially considering some of the shit you post. Good luck with that one.

@42: Inflated!? We're going to have a talk.

Oh, and @10: That is his real name. Basically.

I simply want to bone a chick in a porn. That way my cock is on screen, getting the attention it deserves. And it's a good excuse to do a chick again. It's been awhile. Why not?

Posted by Mr. Poe | April 18, 2008 6:14 PM
46

Thank you for the invites but I must confess, I don't actually think I can hang out with you because Mr. Poe scares me. He bones chicks. Next thing you know he'll be boning ducks and geese too.

Without racism, whenever some old fart tells me I look "oriental" I wouldnt be able to respond, "I WAS oriental, until I spun around a bunch of times and became DISORIENTED."

Works every time.

47 brings up a good point, indirectly: those who of you who assumed the word "racism" automatically implied racism against black people are being somewhat myopic, no?

and "racism is so gay" just has the daft, random goofy nonsensical quality of improv comedy, to me. perhaps it fails, but not to the point of being "retarded."

@15: Do you SERIOUSLY think that Farakan and Alan Keys represent "much" of the
Black community? Gimme a fucking break. Or was your comment purposely and stupidly confusing like the gay t-shirt?

The "homophobia is so gay" shirt was designed by a Sydney, Australia based artist called Elvis Di Fazio (he's also responsible for "drop acid not bombs" and "don't panic I'm Islamic"). He's as hot as he is talented and you can find his myspace here: www.myspace.com/elvisdifazio
