A carefully nurtured persecution complex has become an article of faith for all American Christians—even, you know, the Mormons, who most American Christians [persecute].

Well, actually, they did offer to ay to replace the statue, but only after the story made the news.

But wait, aren't you shifting the story to Joe Conneley's victimization of the secular left? Instead of being about the desecration of a shrine, you're exploiting this as a chance to undermine those who think you need religion.

I'm just saying. Seems like a lot of people these days use everything they find to perpetuate their victimization complex.

"To ay to?" Either my BlackBerry is possessed by demons or your server is. My money's on the BlackBerry because, you know, they endorsed Obama.

Wait. Three mormon missionaries? I thought they only came in pods of two.

"You gotta love the way the Mormon church spokesman strains to shift the focus to his own church’s victimization. "

Not the first time.

"It's typical of Mormon people to love all people, but especially Jewish people. I wear a mezuzah just to remind me, to make sure that there is never another Holocaust anywhere. You see, the Mormon Church is the only church in the history of this country that had an extermination order out against it by Governor Lilburn Boggs of Missouri. We went through untold persecutions," Sen. Hatch said.

@6 the fourth must be holding a camera. I have never seen an odd number of missionaries.

Never forget: they also slaughtered American citizens heading west for the loot.

Even if they try to cover that up.

Help, we're being oppressed!. Would also work in the two previous threads about clinton/whitey.

This cracks me up. Two of the big bullies of the block picking a fight with one another is simply beautiful.

And Will is right, the Mormon church has throughout its history oppressed or killed people, completely destroying any moral high ground that comes from being a marginalized faith.

Also the catholic church has an unimpeachable record of respecting other religions during its existence. as long as you ignore the crusades, the inquisition, the counter-reformation, and the holocaust

A carefully nurtured persecution complex has become de regeur for all interest groups, Dan, including ones to which you belong.

I'm happy as long as they're mad at each other.

So I'm not the only one hoping this starts a holy war and they kill each other off and thus end both faiths?

It's unfortunate that you pulled only part of the story. The quotation is not about victimology in context. The church was saying that members of a traditionally persecuted group should know better than to do such a thing. I suggest people read the whole account, including the apology from one of the guys and the Mormon Church's vow to act against the three guys' church memberships. They don't take it lightly.

At the risk of being beaten up, I will suggest we keep it in perspective. Three 19-year-old Catholic seminarians throwing rocks and breaking windows at a rural Colorado Baptist Church would not produce such media hysteria.

in the 1840 ies, the Mormons had assembled in the boarder states, Indiana, Illinois, etc. and were anti slave.

That is when their big time troubles started.

I suspect there are several chapter of their history that they would like to re- write, but, fact, they gaot killed, raped and burned out by the gang of the ear who were pro slavery.

Hence the move to SLC.

Mormon hating is so dreary. Their history is THE history of the mountain west covering five or six states.

Missionary guys are in pairs, so they can mate in comfort and create less jealously.

Joseph Smith had boy friends and many wives. One horny fucker acting against the status quo, no wonder they (the pro slave rabble) killed him.

Mormons have the super-nice, uptight-but-friendly public stereotype, so it's nice to see they have some outlet for the pent up energy underneath.

Mormons have always been against drinking - strongly. So I suppose the drunks of the world can piss and moan about that.

Why, I cant say. Some people drink and others don't. But it is a big deal for hard core drunks.

I grew up with a half dozen Mormon dudes, and they would not drink or smoke reg. cigs, but, liked good mary jane. You had to teach them to inhale. Kinda funny, and they were really good looking and very nice.

And they were always inviting you to dinner, great feast sort of cooking. Sweet mommies all concerned and caring, but lots of chores too.

Why all the bullshit here is interesting. I never cared about what their church put out, I am very attracted to Eastern mystical religions.

That's funny, the Mormons I knew in high school on the Eastside never met a beer they didn't like.
