Because the campaign to remove the automatic toilets is part of a bigger campaign to get rid of all public toilets. Which is about making the lives of really poor people about as miserable as you can possibly get (because if we help them we might see them). Also, as McIver says, automatic toilets motivate people to use drugs and work as prostitutes. People probably choose to be homeless too because of them. Just think of all the money we could be putting into subsidizing some person's condo instead!
