Re. Helen Sommers' retirement announcement...

Isn't it amazing how all these Republicans have been leaving the state legislature now that the political climate has turned against them?

Now if only that godforsaken viaduct can retire soon too...

I received my first fundraising e-mail from someone running for Helen's soon to be open seat. That is going to be a fun race to watch, as well as the scrap in the legislature as to who becomes chair of Appropriations. Will it be her vice-chair, Hans Dunshee? Should be fun -- at least to this political geek.

I don't pay much attention to the Mariners during Spring Training, a full season of frustration is draining enough. But leave it to Ichiro to make even his slumps entertaining.

Did one of those hobbits have a sign about Nimoy and the U.N.?

Anybody else consider it funny that Nimoy chose Tolkein's least important work for his song? No? Never mind.

Madashell - that was cressona's attempt at being funny because you see she opposed some of his pet projects and maybe endorsed Hillary which makes her the enemy and therefore a Republican.

1. reporting an average of polls is better than just reporting a single poll

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/pa/pennsylvania_democratic_primary-240.html

2. the link on the FL thang says Obama opposes a re-do, too.

Oh well, Obama seems to have no proposal for giving a few million folks a voice. Best for him to stay silent.....he opposes coutning the votes already cast, and he opposes, it seems, having a re-vote, too. Those millions of folks just shouldn't get a vote. Their owners (DNC/legislators/cong. reps.) fucked it up, so let's blame the voters themselves. They deserve not having a vote that counts. And they are so entrenched in the politics of the past, wanting a vote and all.

Why can't they transcend and show some unity?? It's sooooo divisive of them to want a vote that counts.

@13 Let's face it folks... UnPC is now a troll. At first it was funny and edgy, but now it has denegrated to lame and pathetic.

UnPC please go troll elsewhere. Your rhetoric has become nauseous.

In other news...

How is it that any group looking to save the Sonics thinks that they get a "do-over" in asking for public money as part of their "rescue" effort?

It baffles me to think that King County and Seattle are facing budget deficits, yet some billionaire fools and a few loud whiny (minority) citizens trying to keep the Sonics, would have the audacity to ask for money after ALL this?

Didn't we all vote NO $$$ for the Sonics a few months back?

Obama's margin in MS is actually 61-37, and has been since late last night. His margin of victory fell 127 votes short of 100,000. Even a blowout in PA isn't enough to save Clinton now.

UnPC, neither would seating FL as-is.

How come "Clintons release their tax returns" isn't on this list of news items? Is it because she doesn't want people to know that her hubby was a senior advisor to a company that employs slave labor?

Forget prostitution and scat. Such horrid abuse of tuba, banjo, and Spock should be declared obscene.

I think I realize now why they labeled the Sesame Street DVD as "not for children".

Oh, and Sven? Tolkien didn't write any important books.

Posted by Fnarf | March 12, 2008 10:29 AM

"important" is a subjective word.

when I was nine and my dad read the hobbit to me, it was one of the most important things in the world. part of my love of books--which lead me to major in english lit--was born through that experience.

so if it weren't for tolkien, i might not have gone on to study Important books read by Important people.

so yes, tolkien wrote important books.

Lots of people's first book was crap. It's hip to be nostalgic for the Six Million Dollar Man or your Big Wheel or your Tolkien, but if you're saying that stuff is good in a non-ironic way, something ain't right.

"The Hobbit" is a very good book. "Lord of the Rings" is a great book.

"some dude", my Mom read me the Hobbit when I was 9ish also, just as I read it to my daughter (and will to my son.) So I hear what you're saying.

On a completely different topic...

Reality Check calling unPC a troll is rich. Despite her 50% showing national, there are only two strong Clinton supporters around here (I don't count myself, since I've kind of been avoiding the subject lately)- ECB and unPC. You fanatics keep trying to hound the *only* dissenting voices off the stage. Sad, sad, sad. What are you so afraid of? If you've got it so in the bag, just ignore those two. Or could it be...

"Didn't we all vote NO $$$ for the Sonics a few months back?"

No, but Seattle voters did place specific restrictions on future city leases with professional sports teams. The Sonics savers would have to work within these restrictions.

P.S.: Love that Nimoy.
