Straight Cash Express: While Clinton and Obama duke it out, McCain is getting his house in order for the general election.
Meanwhile: Two Clinton supporters have a proposal for new primaries in Michigan and Florida.
Bleak Study of the Day: Reducing carbon emissions may not be enough:
Using advanced computer models to factor in deep-sea warming and other aspects of the carbon cycle that naturally creates and removes carbon dioxide (CO2), the scientists, from countries including the United States, Canada and Germany, are delivering a simple message: The world must bring carbon emissions down to near zero to keep temperatures from rising further.
Direct Marketing: Web companies are gathering detailed files on you.
Fueling Conspiracy Theories: Traces of a bunch of pharmaceuticals (such as antibiotics, mood stabilizers, and sex hormones) have been found in drinking water. Chances Seattle’s water supply is tainted are reportedly slim.
Dept. of Stopped Clocks: Some bigwig Southern Baptists now think climate change is, you know, something to worry about.
On the Rise: The cost of the Iraq War, which this year could reach $12 billion a month.
Also On the Rise: Hates crimes against Latinos.
The Dark Side of Sumo: Beatings with baseball bats and beer bottles, burns from cigarettes.
A Little Less Noise: Tucker Carlson’s rancid MSNBC show is getting canned.
Whole Foods is Just the Beginning: Interbay wants to become an “urban village.”
Airball: Local basketball fans shouldn’t count on landing another NBA team after the Sonics leave.
Sharpest Tools, Sheds: Seattle man hires escort, gets ripped off, reports it to police.
Respect: After 49 years and 250 records, the Ventures are finally getting some love from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
And Finally: “From the early days of our administration, Nancy has been abusing marijuana on a daily basis…”
*WHEW* At least we can just keep driving our SUV's around Seattle since it will not make any difference at this point! And after this weekend of biking around Seattle, in the U-District, down Eastlake and around Burke Gillman. Gas can hit at least $6.00 and no one will stop there driving habits.
BTW, what is up with the "For Lease" sign on the Stranger offices on Cap Hill?
That sign has been on that bldg. for two years.
I HAVE NOT HOOTED SO HARD IN YEARS, the Ronnie and Nancy parody is just a hoot, going to view it many time today.
Thanks to whomever found it, God, it is funny. Of course, as for Nancy, most likely true.
Still chuckling and chortling - god, how funny.
As gas goes up in price, we will drive less, but, NOT abandon our cars.
I now plan my routes and consolidate errands. I also use stamps more and the net.
Fuel waste will be the first to go, long vacations next, and the second car.
The whole carbon thing brings up a point - the uncertainty in the models cuts both ways. As we learn more it may well turn out to be worse rather than better. (And given how much oil-industry pushback we're getting on the models, worse is arguably more likely than better.)
If you're driving on a road at night and someone tells you there may be a bridge out ahead, the weakness of your lights isn't a reason to speed up...
And @1 Yes it makes as much difference now as it did yesterday. To put it brutally, the brunt of the hit is going to be suffered by the poor of the world. If we can get folks to behave well now we can still save the children of the rich (i.e. ours). (How's that for realpolitik?)
How about cleaning up the crime in the Central Dist. and Rainer Valley before building up Interbay and filling it with yuppie condos.
Interbay?
Yeah, right ...
So the Stranger pulled this escort's ad, right?
If all CO2 emissions ceased utterly, it would be a hundred years before the warming was reversed.
The Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame is utter bullshit - but still - fuck yeah.
always the measure of value in that republic. At Rome all accounts appear to nature has established between corn and almost every other sort
