On Iran, how much you want to bet the White House will spin that news to mean that even though it is old efforts we should still bomb Iran? Any takers on that bet?

And on Clinton bowing out: Yeah KARL ROVE thinks she should stay in...yeah, she should TOTALLY listen to Karl Rove..cause he has the best interests of the Democratic Party at heart... uh huh...

still ignoring the Rezko story.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120450564143806509.html?mod=opinion_main_commentaries

pretty clear that there are indications of a big gift to the Obamas in violation of ethics rules.

from a heavily corrupt dude who is in jail right now

in a trial by Patrick Fitzgerald (the guy who nailed Scooter Libby) who does not go after small fry

who was Obama's leading donor and patron for about 17 years not some random unkown remote donor

who didn't even have the money to make the gift and got the money from even slimier folks with a history of corruption and criminality and ties to you know what nation ......

if Hillary's close patron and donor friend for 17 yrs. had helped her get her mansion in Kalorama DC in a 3 way land deal that had indications of being a massive gift to her while a US Senator in violation of ethics rules

if such donor was now in jail right now in a trial for massive coruption and buying public office,

the media/Obama supporters would be all over it 24/7.

most def.

Rezko hasn't blown up because there's no hard evidence of wrongdoing. Obama knows Rezko is shady and has distanced himself; Rezko has a history of preying on young Chicago-area politicians. For what it's worth, Obama has made a point of coming clean with all the details (in a Q&A with the Sun-Times) of how he knows Rezko and what was behind their land transaction. Honesty is the best policy in a situation like this, and he's handling it well.

Here's another reason why it hasn't come out in the primary.

Let's see HRC says over and over that O is not a Muslim and when asked a third time adds "as far as I know" but...

Obama to appear as witness in extortion trial covered by 3000 sources worldwide gets no mention. This the trial of Obama's patron one of his very first contributors that raised over $150,000 for him (O gave a bunch to charity after the money had done its intended purpose )

Obama: Witness for the Defense?

http://www.abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4377680&page=1

The guy was in debt with GE having a court ordered claim, his troubles are well known, phony minority group use for franchises, his wife with no resources buys a $625,000 empty lot and sells part to O and rest goes to a lawyer partner instead of debt, the funding for the home purchase came from an Iraqi Brit that has a conviction for illegal financial acts in France but...

The Stranger story is that HRC added "as far as I know" to the end a of a string of he's not a muslim statements in response to questions that shouldn't have been asked anyway.

The scrutiny of every negative interpretation of every word and phrase is silly. It hurts all of us. While Sen. Clinton has said questionable things many times already this year, this was not one of them.

@9, @10
The Rezko story should not be ignored.
It should not be ignored even if Obama is the nominee as is likely. It should not be ignored if Clinton or Mr. Tammany or Julius Caesar or other politicians in other times and places did questionable things or bad things.

You ain't gonna convince voters in Ohio in November to vote for Obama over McCain by pointing out HRC has negatives.

Maybe what you do with the information about Rezko is vow to work harder for Obama. I likely will work for him as he likely will be the nominee. The point is: this info and story should not be ignored.

Btw I see there is no response on the merits of issues like
(a) did Obama get a $500,000 gift in violation of ethics rules or
(b) what does all this say about Obama's judgment
(c) O. said the land deal was a mistake -- why ? what does that mean? if a mistake, why's he keeping the house which is the fruit of a "mistake" ? why not return the house just like he gave back other donations from the indicted fixer dude Rezko?
(e) now that he knows the money didn't even come from Rezko but came from an even worse character w/ a history of immense scandal and corruption, what's he going to do now?
(f) didn't he know Rezko at the time had huge creditors and no dough so how could hae not have known that Rezko did not have the dough to help buy the land?

Guess he was "fooled" by Rezko just like HRC was fooled by GWB. Everyone else in Chi-town seems to have known this dude Rezko was indicted or was a bad apple. Jesus H,.Christ, he's accused of buying public offices for boards and commissions thru massive donation steering to the Ill. Gov. His influence peddling wasn't the secret kind, it was well known he had his hand out for all kinds of government contracts and loans all over Chicago.

Ignoring negatives and bad news is not how we win.

Deal.

NapoleonXIV @1, tsm @6, well-put. Here's the transcript of that passage from the 60 Minutes story last night:

Senator Clinton disavowed any knowledge of it.

“You don't believe that Senator Obama's a Muslim?” Kroft asked Sen. Clinton.

“Of course not. I mean, that, you know, there is no basis for that. I take him on the basis of what he says. And, you know, there isn't any reason to doubt that,” she replied.

“You said you'd take Senator Obama at his word that he's not…a Muslim. You don't believe that he's…,” Kroft said.

“No. No, there is nothing to base that on. As far as I know,” she said.

Since when is Obama's Christianity something we should take him at his word for? How can the grown-ups in the Democratic Party tolerate this kind of too-clever-for-your-own-good McCarthyism-without-the-McCarthyism-fingerprints? At some point, the unaligned party elders like Al Gore have to stand up and say, "This isn't just rough-and-tumble politics. This is beyond the pale."

I may disagree with John McCain on a number of issues, but at least he's a man of honor. Hillary Clinton has no honor, no decency. And I suppose, according to the Hillary Rules, for me to even suggest this makes me a sexist.

V since that story, Obama has recalled he walked the property with Rezko.
Obama should have known well in advance that Rezko was a very bad actor. Rezko's low income housing company while not proviiding heat for an apartment was donating money to O, I think that was 2002.

If you replaced O's name with HRC in this story it would have been running for six months every night.

And V the fact that the Clinton's had a picture with Rezko means nothing. NPR reported this morning about the circulation of that photo by anti HRC camps and that she has received NO money from him

Re: the Hillary is-obama-a-christian thing . . . I blame the interviewer for initiating then hounding this line of questioning. How would you or I answer if someone kept asking "Do you think Obama is a Christian?" over and over (well, assuming "who gives a rat's ass?" is out of the question). It would be great if she could say "of course not" and then move on to the next question, but that guy was pushing it over and over just to get her to keep rephrasing it so he might get an intriguing quote. No story.

The fact that we live in a country where that's even a remotely appropriate line of questioning causes me no end of distress.

McG, I make no claims that Rezko's not a shady guy, and Obama has done everything he can (so far) to minimize his past connection, including donation of all Rezko contributions to charity and appraisal of the land strip he bought to assure that he paid more than it was worth.

I won't speculate on whether or not the issue would have been bigger if it were HRC-- I don't see a lot of media attention to that she has been the recipient of more health industry ("doctors, hospitals, drug manufacturers and insurers") contributions than nearly all other senators, behind only Rick Santorum in 2006. Rezko is in the news every now and then, and it's always mentioned that he was a one-time Obama supporter.

I don't doubt that Rezko and the Clintons have few if any ties. His connections to many politicians are there, though, so the photo is perhaps a reason Sen. Clinton rarely mentions this anymore.

Again, some news. Obama Bought Home Without Rezko Discount, Seller Says

Javier, you're the one taking this out of context. Hillary's the one who planted the seed of doubt when she said, "I take him on the basis of what he says." Steve Kroft is a smart enough fellow to pick up that innuendo. So when he gave her a chance to disavow it, she just couldn't... quite... let go. Hence, the final "As far as I know."

That was the weirdest exchange. I tend to agree with #17. However:

She should have turned the tables on this guy and not come across as so defensive, as if the interviewer was asking if Obama was a child-molestor or something. Being Muslim isn't the same as being a criminal although obviously to the interviewer it is.

I wished Hillary had stopped the guy cold instead of sputtering away.

I'm hearing from relatives in Ohio that early voting went heavily for Clinton & she will win. The polls are showing her lead now in the 9% to 12% range in Ohio. ...As far as Texas, the pollsters are underrepresenting the Hispanic vote. And the GOP wants this race to continue, so folks like Limbaugh are urging them to vote for Hillary. Whether they do or not won't matter. She will win there too.

@11
there are undisputed facts showing possible wrongdoing.

that Rezko bought part of property listed for sale jointly and Obama bought the other part therefore Obama could not have bought his house at all, without Rezko being his "partner" in buying the jointly listed lots = gift to Obama of some kind = violation of rules.

Then add in extras like Obama got a big discount and Rezko paid full price ie the difference = gift = violation

These facts are not in dispute.

Then add in other stuff as discussed in the various links. Saying there is no "hard" evidence -- WTF? clearly wrong. there is undisputed evidence.

it is also undisputed that this fixer dude was really close to O. for 17 years and is charged w being a coruption machine. By Patrick Fitzgerald. so i take the charges as true, don't you? Rezko is a bad dude. OR wait till the tiral is done then there will be hard evidence.

correct, it is not legal "wrongdoing" to be best buds w a corrupt political fixer for 17 years but still....

story should not be ignored.

V - one of the real estate agents in the Obama deal was nominated on Rezko's rec. to a state board.

V since that story Obama has recalled he walked the property with Rezko.

In all, Rezmar rehabbed 30 buildings. A third of those were in the Illinois Senate district Obama represented between 1997 and 2004. Many of the buildings fell into disrepair and financial straits while Obama was state senator, prompting the city to repeatedly sue over problems including no heat.

Obama, a friend of Rezko for 17 years, said he often got complaints as a state senator about housing problems. But, he said, "As far as I can tell, we were never contacted by Rezko tenants."
