Oh, come on Charles. Surely you can do better than that. What about the gritty First Avenue of "Cinderella Holiday", or the sad 70's lobby of the Olympic Hotel in (I think) "Harry in My Pocket", where they take the magic elevator that delivers them to a room in the Westin?

Or that John Wayne film, where he plays a Seattle cop? (or was that "Harry in My Pocket"?) Or even the one about the street teen back in the 80's?

The "John Wayne is a cop in Seattle" movie was "McQ"--it has a great "meet up with a pimp" scene at the old Coliseum and an excellent car chase that makes the familiar feel wonderfully un-familiar.

@4 wasn't that actually set/filmed in Tacoma?

My vote has to go to Alan Rudolph's under appreciated 'Trouble In Mind.'

Both the clock tower at the train station and SAM (the Seattle Asian Art Museum) are dressed into sets as residences for characters. The monorail is made to feel like viable transportation and Rain City is gritty and glorious.

@8, there may have been some filming in Tacoma, but there are scenes filmed down town, in Magnolia, in Volunteer Park, and they mention living in Seattle several times. I know because it was on cable recently and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Parallax View is a great movie and McQ and C.L are great ways to see pre-Kingdome Seattle.

I miss those crazy old red uniforms for waiters. Much classier than that tired old Italian Bistro look everyone is doing these days.

And while we're at it: A moment of silence for the short skirted/low busted/poofy sleeved cocktail waitress uniform - with the crinoline to make the skirt stick out.

Ooooo! Oooo! Part of "Disclosure" was filmed in the Cascade Suite at the Olympic Hotel!!!!!

Several month later, the wallpaper in the dining room of that suite would be damaged by one of the Baldwin Boys (the one with the hooker problem) when he threw his dinner against the wall in a fit of rage because someone had insulted his girlfriend or wife at the opening of Planet Hollywood.

There was a Teen Cthulhu song called "Southenders" which began with a sample of some B-movie where some dude was saying drunkingly "Seattle - the most liveable city on earth". Then his female friend smugly chimed in: "But you don't even *live* in *Seattle*. You live in *White Center*. Haha, because of all the *white trash* that lives there. *WHITE TRASH CENTER* LOL"

Someone please tell me what movie this is!

Best views of gritty 80's Seattle downtown would be found in 'Streetwise.' (1984) A great documentary about homeless kids surviving day to day in Seattle. Was nominated for an Oscar. A must see if you can find it- Netflix doesn't carry it, but most local spots should.
