Seattle FC is my choice.

FC Seattle sounds more like a real team, but alas, it would never fly around here.

I voted for Seattle FC before forwarding this here, but I really want Seattle Green River Killers, or Seattle GRK.

Glad they trademarked Seattle FC, since it's the least lame choice so far.

Now, let's CRUSH David Beckham and make Posh Spice CRY!

You know, all those names are TOO DAMN exciting. Let's tone them down a bit, since America is already way to rabid about their love of soccer. We don't want any hooliganism.

How about the Seattle... Municipals! Utilitarians! Service Workers!

Oh, and better make the team colors beige and gray, but not too gray.

just a little shameless promotion here... Northwest Film Forum will screen two of the greatest soccer films ever made during the MLS opening weekend this year, ZIDANE A 21ST CENTURY PORTRAIT and FOOTBALL AS NEVER BEFORE about the great George best.

more info here.

No "Seattle United"?

I just hope the FC stands for something, and the name of the team is actually "Seattle Football Club", abbreviated casually as "Seattle FC", as in "Liverpool FC", and not just "Seattle Eff See", full stop. The other two are wicked retahded, seeing as how it's not an alliance and it's not a republic, and neither of those things are associated with Seattle in any way.

Nah, you can't handle United. But you might be able to handle FC. Cool, Adam!

No CSKA Seattle or Seattle/Tacoma Albion?

What, we're stuck with those three? Nothing would beat voting for the Seattle Obamatrons.

Obviously who ever came up with these was "inspired" by a Star Wars convention or something. If ya gotta go that route, the Seattle Wookies would be a better fit.

Nah, Seattle FC would be better.

I hope FC stands for Fagbar Club.

As much as I knew deep down that calling the team the Seattle Green River Killers would never actually fly, I still feel disappointment.

I don't think they could have picked more-boring, less-interesting names if they had deliberately done polling and focus groups on the club names that would inspire the least interest and fervor. How about the Seattle Zzzzzzz or the FC Shhhhhhh? I'm seriously re-thinking my plans to get season tickets if this is the quality of the drivel that the management concocts . . . Let's see, how about if we just USE THE NAME WE ALREADY HAVE THAT PEOPLE LOVE?!?!?!?! GO SOUNDERS!!!

Regarding the "Republic" name:

Many followers of Spanish soccer are familiar with the storied rivalry between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. This rivalry is partially rooted in the roles of those two cities during the Spanish Civil War. Madrid was a stronghold of the quasi-royalist ("Real") Nationalists, while Barcelona was a hotbed of Republican sentiment.

Given Drew Carey's known fondness for FC Barcelona, perhaps the notion behind "Seattle Republic" is to gin up some kind of rivalry with Real Salt Lake.

Their PR people must be ex-PI, ex-Times, and ex-local television. What a fuckin load of bland.

We're the Seattle Penis Envy.

I can't believe no one has thought of it yet: FC = fucking cocksuckers. GO FC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Emerald City FC was better than those first two. Seriously. Seattle Alliance? Sigh.

@23: One problem: There's already a team named the Sounders, and they're not ready to give up the name.

This is all well-and-good, so far as it goes, but what I really want to know is: what corporate logo is going to dominate their uniforms to the point that everybody will think THAT'S the name of the team instead of the one they pick?
