Slog - Comments on Scientist I Saw U!

Attention quantum physics lovers! An urgent and rather twitterpating message from Slog comments fixture, Original Monique… Guess who I saw at the opera? Stephen fucking Hawking. Yes, it's true. It was awesome. Totally surreal and someone that I never dreamed I would ever get to see in person…He is totally a hero of mine, and I respect him so much. Although I told the guy sitting next to us that he was there, the guy had no idea who he was. I couldn't believe it. I wonder why he was in Seattle... Steven Hawking? At Tosca? Quantum. Thanks for sharing,...

Scientist I saw you. Heh. Don't think you'll go too far with this new column.

Recall seeing David Cox sitting alone on a sofa in the lobby of the downtown Westin. To the world, I imagine, he was just some poor old guy sitting in the lobby. To me it was: Holy shit! It's Sir David Cox! And I've never been the same since.

I once thought I saw Stephen Hawking in Portland, then I figured out that I was delusional and it was probably some other guy in a wheelchair. I guess I was thinking a lot about Stephen Hawking at the time, because I also thought he was in an episode of South Park... the story I had going in my head was so funny that I fell off the couch laughing! It had something to do with Stephen Hawking being a real ladies' man and him tooting around in his wheelchair with a hot woman on his lap....I digress...lol :)

It was an awesome Tosca indeed. I went on Saturday (3/8) and saw a couple getting wedding photos taken, several ladies in ball gowns, and a woman wearing what I can only describe as a formal clown costume, but no Stephen Hawking. Perhaps he was there another night.

My dad and little bro are visiting from Dallas, so I've been taking them to all the sites. We bumped into Stephen Hawking getting a personal tour through the EMP's Sci Fi Museum on Monday. I also was dumbfounded to see him in person. And just five feet away from me. As we left, I have to say my redneck relatives were just as happy as I was about the chance encounter.

Comment by RHETT ORACLE

I've seen "Tosca" about 30 times, and I must comment that the plunge of Michele Capalbo (silver cast) from the ramparts of Castel Sant'Angelo was the most perfect plunge ever. No hesitation, no diving board jitters, she just lay back and fell. I hope Hawking saw this.

Bizarrely, I spent the day with and had both high tea and dinner with Stephen Hawking a few years ago. He is quite charming in his way and I suspect really enjoys his celebrity status for the most part. Note: he's not the most graceful eater on the planet. Was he with the young cute nurse?
