Gov. Eliot Spitzer has informed his most senior administration officials that he had been involved in a prostitution ring, an administration official said this morning.

Hm. Was he involved as an administrator? A customer? Or a prostitute? The public demands answers.

Well, shit. He was looking like future presidential material only a couple years ago.

Oh, that's nothing. Last week, the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado (Edward "Naughty" Nottingham) got busted frequenting a house of prostitution. Smart, but pretty dumb.

the local nbc station said that he was a customer.

also, comments on the nyt page are wondering what hillary will say because he endorsed her for president.

it is a shame, because he was looked upon as one of the top people in busting corruption in new york. oops.

"Was he involved as an administrator? A customer? Or a prostitute?"

Well, according to most lobbyists, politicians are whores.

At last, a face-saving opportunity for Hillary emerges...she can drop out of the presidential race and run for governor of NY, and would win in a cakewalk.

"Just last week, federal prosecutors arrested four people in connection with an expensive prostitution operation. Administration officials would not say that this was the ring with which the governor had become involved."

Hmmm, I think that that was maybe supposed to say "extensive," but it does make you think, doesn't it? Would it be less of a big deal if it were a ring of cheap crackwhores?

I think he was their Economic Advisor.

He gave them money and they invested it.

I think Sen Clinton would rather be on the US Supreme Court than Governor of NY.

Involved with a prostitution ring... as a customer? What is that, like a book club? I mean you can see why it would happen and I guess you assume it happens, but damn.

It is crazy to try to tie this to Clinton. It's getting to the point that if anyone supports/endorses someone, they are under the microscope. Maybe we should cease with endorsements if we are going to be so shallow as to tie every move by the endorsees to the candidates.

Well, if the "Spokes Models" pictures are any indication of the quality of their "staff", at least he's got good taste:

I mean, a mistress maybe, the occasional prostitute maybe, but "involved with a ring", that's some hard core stuff.

It's Clintonian (Bill), he seemed so driven, how could he expect to get away with it? I mean, he's pretty recognizable, what's stopping these girls from blackmail? I'm thinking he's also involved with some implicit violence, I mean how do you really provide that much discretion?

Over a hooker or six? Really? When Larry Craig and David Vitter still have their jobs?

Well I guess one of we had to add a high-profile Democrat to the prostitution scandal party someday.

*** A little touch of funny ***

The New York Times is running a photograph of Spitzer and his wife on the front page of their website.

And HBOs The Wire"just broadcast its final episode. This story's got me humming that opening theme song:

When you walk through the garden
you gotta watch your back
well I beg your pardon
walk the straight and narrow track
if you walk with Jesus
he's gonna save your soul
you gotta keep the devil
way down in the hole.

I'm with Infrequent @21. Can't we just let dudes hire hookers if they want, and move on? PLEASE?

Jesus, it's a Hell of a day when I find myself agreeing with a Clintonista like Big Sven but no shit. Spitzer ought to come out and say "Look, Larry Craig sucked thousands of dicks in toilet stalls and he's still in office. Dave Vitter shit in dozens of diapers and paid hookers hundreds of dollars an hour to have his ass wiped and he's still in office so there's no way in Hell I'm resigning over this!"

If he ended his press conference with an off the cuff remark such as "I wish I had a dollar for every inch of dick that Larry Craig sucked and a dollar for every ounce of jism he greedily hoovered down his gullet so I could afford my legal fees, alimony for my wife, my re-election campaign and a couple of girl-on-girl shows when this is all over." so much the better.

The feds have him on a wiretap last month arranging for one of their escorts to travel from NYC to join him at the Mayflower in DC, so he may be looking at a Mann Act charge.

Buh-bye...

Expect the usual double standard to ensue...since it was a Democrat, there will be calls for resignation from the same Republicans who would stand and applaud if one of their own did this and apologized.

It's so nice to see the other wives turn out for these unpleasant moments, too! (Silda, the pearls are divine. But you might ask Eliot the next time this happens to arrange for an outdoor conference. Larry was so thoughtful in that regard--I got to hide a bit behind those huge new sunglasses that are all the rage now.)

wile_e@25, I used to agree with you on all sorts of things. And will again, after this current nominational adventure is over. Cheers.

Not that I've ever gone to a hooker (I like Inga too much, plus with my luck I'd pick up an STD,) but this Spitzer thing reminds me of the old Carlin joke- "there's nothing like seeing a cop, and realizing that you *don't* have a pound of cocaine in the trunk."
