This is a big deal to me.

Everyone should think about what kind of White House Hillary will run. She started the mass firings in the first Clinton term and she's been making a hobby of collecting heads ever since. She's fired a ton of people in her own campaign this year, because that's her idea of being a strong leader. What kind of chief executive never accepts an apology? A weak one, or one whose greatest fear is looking weak.

And take time time to look up all the times when somebody insulted Obama, and then apologized. And he accepted their apology. He didn't dig and demand a resignation. Instead he made a new ally, not an enemy. It's a huge mistake for him to cave to Hillary on this.

You might also want to think about robbing quite possibly the next president of his top foreign policy adviser to satisfy a petty need for revenge.

Would it had been ok if she used Hillary's tactic: "As far as I know, Hillary is not a monster."

Hmmm... the wheel's aren't the only thing spinning on Hillary's campaign bus.

Wasn't she the same one that said neither Clinton or Barack were prepared to be President? Sounds like she should maybe learn when not to say whatever passes through her brain.

It's hard not to see some distinctly Bushian qualities in the Hillary machine. The paranoia about the press, the incompetent yet loyal advisors, the constant quests for revenge ...

I particularly liked the part about how the inexpdrienced Obama campaign was not responding well to the pressure of Hillary's attacks. Hey, their words, not mine.

While Ms. Powers shouldn't have called Hillary Clinton a monster, at least on record, one has to respect that Obama asked for and accepted her resignation.

It's unfortunate that Hillary "Me Luvs McCain" Clinton doesn't have the same level of class or dignity.

The little NAFTA stunt that won her Ohio is a case in point (the "don't worry, we're just pretending about NAFTA" call she blamed on Obama was actually made by HER aides). She is a bit of a monster.

Like I have said before, I believe that the only way to truly have a transformative leader is to lead the people into a nation of unity and hope. I don't see evidence of that with all of the divisiveness that many supporters of Obama have exhibited. For this and for other reasons, I do not endorse Obama.

Now, in regards to this comment, I think many are looking to the wrong place for the enemy. Nonetheless, I am confident that Ms. Power's statements are in the extreme minority. I think this is very, very sad.

I really think this might hurt Obama. Just imagine if one of Hillary's advisers had said that Obama was a Monster. I think that would inspire an even larger reaction.

Who did Clinton fire?

Power worked for Obama. Obama is a different kind of politician and thus can't tolerate monster comments from his staff.

I'd prefer he be honest. Sling the mud back. Stand up for his people.

#8, Wow, I didn't know Hillary was so powerful she could fire people from Obama's campaign!! Poor Obama! Thanks for the insight!!!!

#13, Hillary is so mean and vengeful she goes around calling her opponents liars and monsters "off the record"!! I assume she is doing this anyway because Obama is doing it and Hillary is 100x meaner!!

You Obamazoids apparently think an election should be something out of your high school civics class. Well, it isn't, and Hillary's actually pretty good at it. Come on, admit that youre a teensy bit jealous that BO isn't that down and dirty - because, like it or not, yes, that really does win elections.

It's no coincidence that the crews with those qualities have won the last 5 (at least) presidential elections.

@22—excellent point. Clinton excels in the use of the Dark Arts. There’s a part of me that wants blood: a Democratic President who vilifies Republicans for there lack of patriotism, payback for the last 7 years.

Clinton is not that candidate, however. She uses the Dark Arts only against fellow Democrats, all the while sucking up to McCain.

To win a general election, you must be able to unite the party. Smashing it to bits for short-term gain? Brilliant approach.

Shouldn't Sen Clinton resign over her apparent attempts to phone the Prime Minister of Canada over how she lied about being "tough" on NAFTA and then getting him to phone the Obama campaign aide, all so she could run an attack ad that was untrue on the face of it?

Well?

There is a classic management rule that goes like this: "It's not the ones you fire who give you trouble, its the ones you don't fire who give you trouble." Obama fired Power because she had given him trouble. HRC has no reason to "accept" an apology from Power any more than she should have accepted an apology from that news reporter who complained that HRC was "pimping" her daughter out to support her campaign. I think if most of you had experienced a supposedly neutral newsperson calling you a pimp and thus implying that your daughter was a whore, you would not be very forgiving.
The irony here is that all you negative obama supporters with your various attacks would be fired by Obama if you worked for him because, like this Power newbie, you have no sense of the damage you are doing to Obama, to the parties chances of winning and ultimately to the country and yourselves. This makes each of you, like Samantha Power, a hypocrite. Except she apologized whereas you are unapologetic in your attacks. This will not build a winning coalition. If McCain wins, you will have contributed to his election with your attacks. I don't like HRC's tactics and I think its fair to call attention to them but calling her a "bitch" -and not in a "good" way- does not do us any favors and plays into the republican agenda. Making it a joke does not absolve you of the consequences of your actions. Frankly, you are acting like the cointelpro plants who escalated the rhetoric so that people feel entitled to their hate and their rash actions. Think about it, is relentlessly attacking a large chunk of the democratic base's choice, the most effective way to build support for a supposedly post partisan candidate in November?

Posted by LMSW | March 7, 2008 11:50 AM

So let me get this straight BB, if Obama brings Republicans to the table it's a good thing, but if Hillary does it it's not?

Hypocrisy much?

I think the Obama campaign should demand Hillary apologize to Ohio voters for her lies about the NAFTA kerfuffle. BTW I heard this Powers woman won a pulitzer prize in the past for a book about genocide.

Don't blow this out of proportion. Power and Obama are handling it well - she's an academic who's been advising him on foreign policy; she's not a political operative, she rarely appears with Obama and isn't his campaign manager or top adviser.
She said something she shouldn't have, so she resigned.
but I'm sure many Obama supporters and campaign workers agree with her, just as I know many Clinton supporters/workers call Obama names too. Be realistic - it was a slip.
When Obama wins, though, she'll be back. Which is good.

Plus, she was speaking to the Scotsman, so they were both probably knackered and the reporter couldn't hear Power properly over the bagpipes and the cries of "Freeeeeeeedom!" and "WALLACE - WALLACE!" chanting.
