we get somewhere on educating & sensitizing one group of ignorant idiots, then we import a bunch more.

the american melting pot is good for cuisine, but not gay rights.

the american right should love immigrants
the busness community loves how dirt cheap they are (even pusedo vaugely leftist hipster magazine like vice has full page ads run by american appairal supporting uncontroled immigration)
The evangelicals should love how backwords and intolerant they can be

Let's not blame the immigrants for a commodity we're so good at making right here at home.

Um, I'm not really sure that two data points three years apart, and neither of them within the past six months, really defines a line here. Yes, there are homophobic groups in the Russian immigrant community, but is it really true that they are large, significant, or growing?

Fnarf: I think they're significant because their homophobia has translated to physical violence on more than one occasion.

The idiot with the bullhorn on Pride Day? I can handle that. Fred Phelps with his "God Hates Fags" signs? I can even handle that. But people beating (ie Micah Painter) or killing (the guy down in Sacramento... that's another level.

It's not the crowd I worry about. It's the lone nut with the gun.

Fnarf: the article in the LATimes fails to truly convey the vitriol with which Russian immigrants are spreading their destructive message, spread under the guise of Evengelical Christian 'love' and 'compassion'.

True - the two data points covered in the article do not point to a trend; however, I can say that, absolutely, their presence is significant and that, more troublesome, is the very active role of their clergy in pressing congregations to physically involve themselves in stopping, even merely percieved, homosexual contact in public (i.e., Mr, Singh's dancing with friends).

Most offensively to me, the clergy then attempts to frame the public debate as them having had their religious freedoms impinged upon - saying, "That's why we left Russia (Ukraine, etc.)".

Welcome to America; now live up to the personal responsibility that your desired freedoms require of you!
