Potential Clinton Ohio Victory Offends Internet

posted by on March 3 at 15:12 PM

Wonkette:

It’s the same crap they’ve been pulling for decades: an egomaniacal “win” leads to demonic “momentum” which gives them a racist “chance” at becoming Hitlerish “president.” What Hillary’s done with this Ohio poll is only the bitchy “tip” of the tranny “mountain” of… lies. She lies all the time!

You're asking for it, Erica. That's exactly the kind of petulant, overreacting bullshit that drives out thinking, and turns on the haters here. It's garbage; you should ignore it.

Let's keep in mind that Hillary has to get 58% or better in every state from this point forward in order to close the gap. Otherwise, she'll have to get the superdelegates to override the democratic vote.

par·o·dy (noun, plural -dies, verb, -died, -dy·ing.)

1. a humorous or satirical imitation of a serious piece of literature or writing: his hilarious parody of Hamlet's soliloquy.
2. the genre of literary composition represented by such imitations.
3. a burlesque imitation of a musical composition.
4. any humorous, satirical, or burlesque imitation, as of a person, event, etc.
5. the use in the 16th century of borrowed material in a musical setting of the Mass (parody Mass).
6. a poor or feeble imitation or semblance; travesty: His acting is a parody of his past greatness.
–verb (used with object) 7. to imitate (a composition, author, etc.) for purposes of ridicule or satire.
8. to imitate poorly or feebly; travesty.

In other words, um, see, I think this is another one of those HUMOR pieces, ECB. Have you read Wonkette enough to understand it's satirical tone, and if so, what is your point with this post?

Well, we'll just have to saw off Ohio at the border, and let it float away.

Oh. My. God. Did you just take umbrage at a Wonkette piece? I can't understand what the hell you mean by posting this. Are you pointing us to parody out of whimsy? If so, it doesn't come across, which sadly isn't surprising with an ECB post. Are you somehow offended and showing off a complete lack of understanding how the web works? Because it's, you know, Wonkette. My head is spinning with either how a) knuckleheaded or b) poorly conceived this post is.

When is someone going to take away ECB's internet privileges?

I thought we already agreed that Ohio, having only four letters in it's state name, counts for two-fifths as many delegates as Washington ... so it's not going to matter anyway.

Texas has only five letters, but Vermont has seven.

What worries me is a Clinton Rhode Island victory ... if that happens then is it worth two letters (RI) or eleven letters (Rhode Island) ... that could throw off the entire delegate equation and we'll have to go to the Rock-Paper-Scissors throwdown for third round delegate selection.

The problem with RPS selection is that each candidate literally sacrifices a superdelegate using an obsidian knife each time they lose ...

@6 Wikipedia says "Wonkette is a blog published by Gawker Media that details the goings-on of the political establishment in Washington, DC. The site focuses heavily on gossip, humor, and the downfall of the powerful, as well as more "serious" matters of politics or policy (often from a left-leaning perspective). The site in its current incarnation is infamous for derisively mocking political figures its writers personally dislike, including maliciously attacking their families and small children."

And that's being NICE.

"Ana Marie Cox, a former editor at suck.com, was the founding editor. Under her tenure, Wonkette was known for its sharp, sarcastic, intelligent voice, and for its mixture of heady political discourse with repeated references to gin and anal sex. The blog gained national media attention after Cox publicized the story of Jessica Cutler aka "Washingtonienne", a former Hill staffer who wrote on her blog about her affair with a member of former Senator Mike DeWine's staff."

So, ECB, it was started and brilliantly powered by a GIRL. Ya know, "ette," as in the feminizing suffix?

Evidently Erica can't win. Now she's "taking things too seriously". Ha ha.

Maybe the Obama campaign took the Clinton campaign's most recent t.v. ad "too seriously".

The Obama zombies have an answer for everything, except about how Obama is going to make all of his "changes" without Congress, let alone pay for them when we have a huge budget deficit.

Agreed with 17: Erica knows it's satire, and posted it for that reason. It's satire that's actually, you know, funny, as opposed to that Post article.

Who's taking things too seriously now, Andy?

@21: Normally I'd be inclined to agree with you, but seriously, what is not to get about this? To "not get it" is a refusal to assume anything but the absolute worst, because Erica's name is on it. Erica is obviously familiar with Wonkette, and the title of the post, taken from the Wonkette posting, frames this as an homage, not another example of "outrage."

Yes indeed all the anti ECB types have taken the bait. . the wonkette piece is a satire of paranoid Hilary haters. she posted it without comment so that Bellevue, Fnarf, andy etc would assume she is somehow being extremist and taking it seriously. You have all made fools of yourselves. this is where the expression hoisted by your own petard applies.
touché ECB.

it was a strangely silent ecb post. that alone should have tipped off ecb's fan club.

but erica could have been really funny with this one. she could have pretended to embrace the position in an over-the-top manner. that would have been hilarious. can you imagine?

instead she posts nothing. since she does post some pretty hard-to-swallow pieces, we are left wondering if she has finally slipped over the edge.

all she had to do was add, "this is funny."

but her post is serious. she really wants our attention drawn to the wonkette post because it makes fun of the "obamatons" here. so she's mocking without any satire. which is, in fact, baiting.

i don't want to speak for fnarf, but his comment would still stand even if ecb recognizes the piece is satire. in fact, it makes more sense to me that way. the piece is mocking the way obama supporters act, which is kind of rude.

sorry infrequent, normally you don't sound this way but this time, you sound like whiny back pedaling to me. "kind of rude"? Puh-lease. Having No comment was the rorschach test for the reactive posters. given the lack of sense of humor here, it was perfect.

Infrequent @29 is correct. I'm well attuned to satire, and as satire this bit is (a) terrible and (b) meat for the lions. Erica's post has no other function than to rile up the commenters here, and that IS funny, because she complains about them so often. Fnarf, you are like HRC, you can't admit to being wrong. Hell, you can't even admit to being misled.

It was such "terrible" satire, that you couldn't tell it was satire? Hmmm... if it was underplayed there would have been no reaction. If the satire was just right it would seem almost believable and be revealing of at least a partial truth about its subject. Yet this "terrible" satire was over the top, so your claim to being "attuned to satire" doesn't wash. You took it seriously. Your characterization of the Wonkette material as "petulant, overreacting bullshit" shows just how much you didn't get it and inadvertently describes all the "haters" here.

Intentionally or not, the posting of Wonkette functioned to reveal your low reading comprehension scores.

Further, by sticking to your attack, you show just how much of a sore loser you are.

P.S. "meat for the lions"?
don't flatter yourself, try Jackals.

There are really two Fnarfs. One is Fnarf the thoughtful commentator, leftist on sicial issues, centrist on economics. The other is Fnarf the imp. An "imp" = "a troll, except kind of fun." Apparently they post from the same email address. The second one was having a boring day at the office and wrote @3, and hey presto, a post that was fated to be a five-comment-and-forget thread became a best-seller.

@32: See, that's my problem. You don't make that shit clear AT ALL, and then it winds up that what you post becomes bait - as 29 so well put it. And how is that in any way helpful or worth anyone's time?

This is why people start shooting messengers, to turn a phrase; not because they have a problem with the message but because it's presented in such an overly wrought, ever-so-clever way that even those trying to be honest and involved have to take things the bad way or risk being made fools of.

I want to write more, but it's 1 am and I'm disappointed by what humanity has made of the internet.

Erica - cheers and more cheers

Some of these posters need to plug in their brains, eat some real food, apolgise to their moms and other women near them, and get on the clue bus for real.

Brillant.

Hillary has HER place in history and if this contest breaks for Obama, she is far from leaving the political stage to appease the two bit bands of sexist pigs, lingering past the 1950ies..

I shudder to think any of these people live in my beloved Seattle. It hurts.

It's that wicked Erica and her wily time-wasting ways, again! and this time with a new weapon: parody! Freakish! Making a fool of you, making you take things things the wrong way, you who was just trying to be honest and involved, again, again! Curses!

And not because you have a problem with the message!

When you're done being disappointed with what humanity has made of the internet (once so pristine before humanity got involved), @48, come on over and we'll throw some Irish babies on the BBQ.
