I remember being 16 in tallahassee in early 2002, the wanna be college marxists protesting fsu memrabellia being produced by sweatshops, joined forces with regular dorm dwellers angry over rent hikes.....and set up a large tent city on the main campus green for 4 months
I was in highschool but ended up moveing out of my dads, ditching school, drinking, smoking weed, dropping acid and fucking all for the first time...
good times...cops shut us down eventually...but those were some good times

No Slog-reading liberal wants to touch this post, so I'll ask the obvious question: What the fuck? Are you taunting the homeless for not constructing fire-retardant shelter? Have you responded to a fire in an encampment? What's your point, Six Shooter?

The city should totally put in bath & laundry facilities for the homeless. And electrical hookups. And pools. It should be like KOA.

I've been homeless before...let me tell you , homeless people cant stand other homeless people and want to stay away from them...which is why whenever you get centralized shelters you have violence...fights,killings raps

I would rather sleep in the rain

which is why evenly disbursed and distrbuted camps are better

let them camp if they agree to clean up after themselves

Yeah, I don't understand. Are you saying... what are you saying?

Having camped out last night as part of this protest, I only want to say that there were WAY more than 10 tents and 50 campers reported by the Seattle Times. Unfortunately the Seattle Times left around 6pm. The hot meal was served 5:30 to 6:30pm, but the majority of overnighters didn't start showing up until after 7pm (because, ya know, we had to work and stuff). By 9pm, the little city hall plaza was full with at least 30 tents (and some very brave protesting souls sleeping in cardboard boxes). There was easily over 100 people, and by around midnight (when I left the tent for a potty break) there were even more people standing around and sleeping without a tent. So I'd say at least 150 people and at least 30 tents.

Again, because many of us had to work today, people started packing up their tents around 6am.

I spent the night too. Tracy's right: We counted close to 200 people a little after 6PM for dinner. Around midnight, we carefully counted 48 tents, and 10 people sleeping rolled up in plastic or in cardboard boxes outside. Some of the campers were homeless, most weren't, but decided to spend the night out in the rain and cold to tell the mayor that if he won't offer people anything better than being outside, then he should leave them alone. Where does he think people are going to go?

Bus Tickets.

The Mayor should offer them bus tickets. To anywhere. Preferably out of state.
