The only thing funny about Al Franken is his inevitable death. Can't wait.

There are only a few points separating Franken and Coleman and a whole lot of campaign left, but here's hoping. Franken's great.

Minnesota. Didn't they elect Hulk Hogan governor or something?

I made my $20.08 contribution yesterday.

I look forward to his filibusters from the floor of the Senate. C-Span might just get some decent ratings.

I can't help but read that as "dick Coleman like a baby seal", which confuses me.

Heck, in we would've had Jerry Springer as Gov. if he would of ran...the idiot.

He was out Mayor once.

Al Franken's books are not "great." They are "better than Michael Moore's," but that's really not saying much of anything at all.

I agree, Al Franken winning a seat in ANYTHING would make republican heads explode, much like if Rush got some sort of political seat.

But eh, at least the crazy is on our side this time.

Hope he pulls it off. Better to see a comedian in office than another clown.

p.s. Clowns are creepy.

I’m with you Sven.
A great friend of mine’s family are big MN Dems. They helped Colemen get elected mayor of St. Paul. Back when Coleman was a Dem. Coleman was actually very close with my friend’s dad for a while. When Norm decided to switch parties after he was elected, he never called anyone in the family. Never spoke to them again.
When dad died in the mid 90’s Wellstone spoke at his funeral, Coleman never even sent a card.
My friend’s bother was on the plane with Wellstone when it went down, never heard from Coleman.
We called him Diamond Norm Coleman when I lived in St. P, because he looked and sounded just like Diamond Joe Quimby from the Simpsons. He’s the epitome of the opportunistic prick.

"If it looks like they’re going to lose a Senate seat to Mr. Air-Fucking-America, maybe they will become so disillusioned with the whole sinful mess that they’ll just stay at home on election night, reading Leviticus and waiting for the rapture."

Or, maybe they will focus their (non-presidential) campaign resources on defeating him. Al's not even in the woods yet, much less out of them.

Agree with you about Norm, though. Total douche.

Oh, and #3: It was Jesse "The Body" Ventura, not Hulk Hogan. I mean, really, give us some credit.

Somewhat tangentially: the movie "Predator" is awesome for a number of reasons, not least of which is the fact that it stars two actor/body-builders turned governors (Jesse and Arnold). I see big things in the political future of one Carl Weathers.

Al Franken, how I hate him so. Really, can't the Dems do better than that gasbag? What next, Randi Rhodes for Governor? Please.

To see a true liberal like Al Franken replace a true liberal like Paul Wellstone by decapitating a snoley goster like Coleman in the same year as a Demo is elected president...wait, wait, I swoon...

Hats off to Sven for saying it in print first!

Fellow Minnesotan says "Rah Rah Rah!"

I almost spilled pop on Mrs. Al Franken a couple of weeks ago. That'll teach her to sit next to me at a lecture about the LRT extension.

That's right. /Pop/.

I only find Al Franken mildly amusing at best.

But I agree with Original Monique. It would make Republican heads explode all across the nation. That would be awesome.

@7 - I completely agree. Franken is snarky, but lacks substance. I liked him better on SNL.

once he's in the senate, you'll see what a breath of fresh air it is to have someone intelligent & self-aware injecting humor and reality into that junkyard of tottering grandees.

yeah, i'm talking to the mom in tennis shoes, too.

Franken was on CNN this morning and it was great. Kiren Chechri (sp?) asked him to comment on him saying that Cheney and Rove should be executed and he called her out on it. She phrased it exactly that way and he told her that is not what he said at all. She eventually had to read the exact quote verbatem and it was obvious he said nothing of the sort. She is an idiot and he exposed her stupidity for all to see. Loved it!

Slogger Big SVEN supports Hillery Clinton and Hillery ClinTon supported teh war in Iraq. Nearly 4,000 troops have died in BIG SVEn’s war. When will big sVen apologui9ze for supporting Hillery cLinton?

Cpl. Thomas L. Hilbert, of Venus, Texas, a small town 30 miles south of Dallas. Hilbert, 20, and two other soldiers serving with the 9th Cavalry Regiment based at Fort Bliss, near El Paso, died after their vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device on Sept. 6. Hilbert's sister, BillieJo Alexander, told the El Paso Times that her brother had already reserved a hotel room in Las Vegas to celebrate his 21st birthday with his family in January.

So why don\\\'t we apportion Big Sven his fair share of the carnage in Iraq? Let\\\'s arbitrarily assign him responsibility for the death of, say, an eight year old Iraqi girl. That sounds about right doesn\\\'t it? That still leaves 649,999 dead Iraqis to be apportioned out to Bush and the neo-cons and other war supporters.

@10 Word. I haven't heard 'Diamond Norm' in a long time. Thanks for the flashback.

Coleman was a much better mayor than Senator, and should have stayed there. Franken may only be marginally funny. but he is certainly a lot smarter than Norm.

@3 Jesse wasn't that bad as Gov, especially considering who he ran against in '98. I would have voted for him in '02 had he run again.

As cool as Al Franken is for having been on SNL, I'm disappointed to hear that Mike Ciresi has stepped down... I happen to know his family and Mike has done a lot of good work in his time as an attorney on behalf of the little guy. Bhopal vs. Union Carbide, the Delcon Shield, the Tobacco case, etc. I would have liked to see him succeed.

That said, Andy's right up there, the filibuster has a chance to become much more entertaining if Al wins.
