It was a terrible crash. He ended up having the lower part of his left leg amputated.

I’ve always been afraid to go downhill skiing or snowboarding at speeds exceeding 90 mph. This video pretty much guarantees that I’ll remain this way forever. Yep. I think forever…

I saw a formula 1 racing crash once that looked horrifying. This is why I am pretty sure I will never use four wheeled transport ever.

Best to stay here on my sofa.

I saw a forumula 1 auto racing crash once that looked horrifying.

Needless to say, I've never been in a four wheeled automobile since.

That announcer keeps saying he doesn't want to see it and they keep replaying it.

really? i know there aren't many big mountains near alpena, but i would think that you would have been into winter sports. my friend, a true blue yooper, and I have been going skiing every weekend all year. it's a blast, for one, and for two, you get to pretend like you live in a place that actually has a winter season.

at least rent some snow shoes and go check out some trails. you don't know what you're missing :D

Those speed skiers are addicted to the Rush, the Feel of Speed, the THRILL. It's called living life on the edge by some. And ya know some of um fall off the edge at times. He'll be sking with one leg in about 24 months.

you know, those guys go like 3x as fast as i ever go, and i rip it. snowboarding is easy (after the first 2x), & a lot of fun.

but fine. we need less gapers on the hill, anyway.

#7 - don't get me wrong, I'll ride the f*ck out of a snowmobile, love cross-country skiing, and was born with a plastic red saucer sled in my hands.

I just can't shake my Midwest flatlander'isms - I'm also nervous when I ride up Denny or Yesler street in a stick shift car. And I've lived here for 12 years.

If you can't ski 80 downhill in a tuck, you're not really skiing, IMHO.

Dear god. I thought skis were supposed to detach when you crash, for exactly this reason. It looks like the ski catching on the hill was what ripped his leg around.

I hope he was unconscious by then, though I fear not based on when he looks limp.

The 27-year-old Lanzinger broke two bones in his leg during a crash Sunday in a super-G race in Kvitfjell, Norway. Damaged blood vessels and poor circulation forced the amputation.

I feel sorry for this guy. He just had this dreams crushed and life forever changed by this fall. That fall reminds me of the skateboarder from the X-Games last summer who fell 50 feet, but didn't die or get paralyzed at all.

@10 - dammit, yet again, you rule.

@12 - you'd have to be hit by a truck for the bindings on those skis to release. they do that on purpose because the stress of skiing that fast means loose bindings would pop off due to the shock of "normal" skiing. it's intense.

btw, anybody see that pick of a telemarker going over the baker highway gap? totally out of order.

That clip made my balls contract into my abdomen. Poor guy. Joe Theismann has got nothing on him.
