Totally off-topic, but I have no thread to vent in yet. So far, this retooling of the slog is not doing it for me. It's hard to read the longer posts all the way across the screen. Is that supposed to be that way?
"An outdated model can be dressed up in any short skirt and sexy pose money can buy, but when it all boils down you’re still being tricked into screwing an old lady."
That sentence's meaning is really ambiguous (meaningless?), considering Parton is financing this record on her own dime without a major label backing.
I'm not sure it was sexist, but it was certainly insulting/demeaning to Dolly. The record industry is old, washed up, passed its prime, etc., and so is Dolly. Though, come to think of it, he illustrated how Dolly was passed her prime by basically saying you wouldn't want to fuck her, rather than, her music sucks now, so maybe it was sexist.
Yes, it's sexist, because he obviously thinks Dolly Parton is just a boob joke instead of a giant, one of the all-time greats of American culture. His motivation probably isn't wrong; it's just that he's a young feller who doesn't know any history. To him, everyone over the age of 35 is "old people". Would he write the same drivel about Keith Richard? Probably. But of course, Dolly is still relevant, while Richard hasn't participated in interesting music for a quarter of a century.
This thing still isn't remembering people, or displaying their links.
i'm not going to talk about whether it is sexist or not, but seattle98104, it is an analogy. that means it does not matter that dolly release the record on her own or not. kirby is saying you can dress up something (an old person or an old method) to look good (like dolly or like the selling cds), but if you buy into it you might not get what you thought you were getting.
it's like kirby is saying,
human : talk :: cat : meow
and you counter with, but some humans meow.
Yes, the post is sexist (duh), but worse, it's stupid. Dolly hasn't "tricked" you, Jeff, she's made a very funny, campy, ironic joke. Too bad it sailed right over your head.
Yes it's sexist, but it's just par for the post-menopause course: If you're HRC (age 60) and you look your age, you're a hag; if you're DP (age 62) and you fight age tooth and nail, you're a slag.

Unacceptable. Change it back.

It's not a redesign. ECB found some comments she "disagreed" with and tried to remove them from the SLOG, and ended up messing with the whole site.
Figures.
Tell ECB to change it back, this format sucks big time.
a> yes, he's sexist,
b> the new design is worse,
c> sorry
d> it still takes 30 seconds to post, wtf?
I can't get over how shitty Slog looks.

No one wants to bang old people. Except for Mr. Poe.
And me!!

He's no Charles Mudede.

What's wrong with being sexy?
I'm pretty sure it's sexist/ageist. If we take infrequent's cue the real analogy is
old recording industry model:crumbling :: old women:disgusting
Hey Fnarf, gotta disagree. Not about Dolly, she's awesome and always entertaining. But A Bigger Band was a great album. And it's Richards.
He's plural.

I'll tell you what's sexist...an enormous penis!!!
