The PI is rolling out another blog--its 45,827th--and the paper couldn't be prouder... Introducing... MOMSeattle Check out our new community site by and for local moms, featuring blogs, forums and photo galleries of your kids and their amazing artwork. Because, you know, only women have children.

Oh, please. Every blog on earth has punctuation and spelling errors. Blogging and the immediacy it requires makes it impossible to spell check and copy edit everything that gets posted. Ding us for errors in print -- those are embarrassing. But carping about errors on a blog is just makes you look like a douchebag.

They don't have a right to create a blog for women?

I'm wondering what part of that quote says "only women have children". It's a blog by moms. All moms obviously have children, so children are a focus of the blog. If it were a blog specifically about kids, and they didn't accomodate dads, you might have a point.

You should just kindly suggest that they create a "dad" blog if you're really that bitter about it.

And I don't know, maybe it can, Fnarf. I mean, Slog never improved the quality of my life, but it has, on rare occasions, made me think, and that's not a bad thing.

Fnarf might be making a joke but it's probably not far from the truth.
Maybe women really do think blogging makes them better mothers.

I know of a blogspot site that has a list of 2,000 women and their blogs. At least a 1,999 are women who blog about their children.

Maybe women think they are better moms by exposing their children's faces, names and which school they go to on the internet for any weirdo to see.

The relevant truth can be found in the one-man play: "Defending the Caveman." It is a laugh-out-loud funny riff on the differences between men and women, without being mean-spirited. If you've seen the play, then, when you see that the PI has a meta-blog from, for, and about moms, you say, "of course." My husband and I have seen the play. We've taken his parents and a dozen of our friends. Next is our teenaged son. Anyone reading this far down in the comments would probably really enjoy the play and the truth it contains. Peace be with you.

Both mj and Nav raise very valid, if off-topic, points. It is not cool to have your whole life story on the internet, and especially not cool to involve your kids in it. I know next to nothing about mj, except for the things she's posted here, which isn't much. I've opened myself up a bit more, Google me and you will learn that I'm a retired Denver cop, divorced (from Slog) who grew up a couple blocks away from Meredith Viera (from her blog), and a Benefactor Member of the NRA (also from Slog). But that's really about it. And then there's Fnarf. I've never met the man, but I can tell you his name, where he works, what he does for a living, his email address, his wife's name (public record there, ST), the color of his hair, the color of his eyes. that he does a neat trick with quarters, what he does for fun, and the list goes on. And all that in about 5 minutes on Google. Can you imagine what a real stalker could do? My point is that we need to be a whole lot more careful about these things.

@33 Fifty Two Eighty, this cracked me up...
both mj and Nav raise very valid, if off-topic, points.

I always manage to go off topic. My brain just seems to always pick up a side note and go off topic. I was born just to drive on task logical people crazy.
Your observation made me laugh!

Portals are so 1999. Without even benefit of Prince and his hip replacement. They are throwing anything and everything against the pixelwall and hoping to hell something stinks, er, sticks. Their breaking news coverage under the P-I brand is decent; put more people there and leave the mommyblogging to mommybloggers and their own sites.

I believe this is soooooo machista. of course, moms can only care about their children. because, what else would they do? and dads will never care about their children so much .. so there you go, if you are a woman, go out there and have tons of kinds and care about nothing else.. don't dare you care about cars, the globalization of economy, robotic science or german literature and philosophy!!!!!!!!!

Oh yay, just what the world needs, another blog for whiny, self-indulgent mothers to talk about how hard it is to find time to write blogs about ...

Hey Dan, true story: when I worked in hip, left-coast Seattle ten years ago at a firm that needs not be mentioned, one of the senior partners was telling me about a friend of hers who was dying of a brain tumor. I expressed sympathy and received the following reply: "Oh, I know you're used to friends dying all the time [implied: you sorry FAG], but I'm talking about somebody with a family!"

I was so stunned I just walked away, speechless.

"'Because, you know, only women have children.'" Well, in some senses of the word, only women do have children.

For example: "When did you have your child?" Nobody would reply: "Starting on October 12, 1996 and continuing to the present."
