That's a fucking awesome ad.
Not in the way that sounds, but because it accurately portrays the creeping ugliness of the trauma in an unsettlingly accurate fashion.

OK, I'm coming out of lurkerdom to discuss this one. Can you imagine an ad like this ever appearing on American television? No way - the taboo against public confrontation of sexual abuse issues is too strong.

This summer, I attended a presentation by German sex researchers who are working on a treatment for pedophilia. They showed a similar TV spot used for recruitment to their experimental program. It opened with a scene of a 30-ish, average-looking man on a public bus. The soundtrack was his heartbeat. A woman and young boy got on at the next stop, and the man looked furtively at the boy, his heart beat quickening with each glance. The man squirmed in his seat, clearly uncomfortable, but unable to stop looking. Finally the woman and boy exited, and his heart rate returned to normal.

The caption at the end said, "Do you like children more than you should? Call us. We will try to help."

Sadly, there is no truly successful treatment for pedophilia - but at least they have received funding to try to find one and are allowed to recruit in this public way. In contrast, we devote more resources to the punishment/temporary incarceration of perpetrators than prevention of abuse/treatment of victims.

Grumble.

I thought the ad was very well done and real. It would have been better if it ended with a number for victims to call to get help, though, rather than with a plea for money.

Also, it's not clear what these people do with money you send them
