great another tool that big brother will use against us. I can see the Brits requiring all of their citizens to use this so they can monitor and record their thoughts.

@3 -- that thought entered my mind as well. and while thought readers might not be too far off in the future, this device requires more attention than just a passing thought. you have to intentionally trigger it much like you have to intend to speak.

Soon, I will have an army of killer robots, ready to pounce at my slightest thought! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Carry on.

As 4 says ...
From the New Scientist Tech Website: "With careful training a person can send nerve signals to their vocal cords without making a sound."

Which means you can't just pick up the device and start using it. You have to teach yourself (brain / vocal cords) to "intend" speech without speaking.

and in the time it takes you to learn is all the time napoleon's robot army will need... once, of course, "MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" is added as the 151st word recognized by the system (as both "robot" and "pounce" are already included).

Definitely not fake -- academics have been working on this for years. Looks like it's not quite ready for commercialization, but very close.

What's so great about food processors? I can chop veggies almost as fast with a good knife and cutting board; and the time you waste cleaning all the fiddly parts of the food processor negates the time saved using it.

But the thought-phone is pretty cool.

It ain't a thought-phone, it's a vocal cord translator.

Most awkward phone conversation ever.

I wonder if people who hear voices will be able to make the voices talk into the phone???
