I already spent mine on a PS3, blu-ray's, and pot. The rest is for a gun and some other shit I want but do not need.

Paying off the student loans baby.

But if I have a sudden irresponsible impulse I might just go on vacation. Who knows? With $600 bucks the possibilities are endless.

I'll have to check with my Chinese lender and get back to you on how much of a loan they're "giving" us ...

Our stimulus will be directed towards my gigantic dental bill, and tickets to Virginia Beach for a wedding in June. Good times!

However, I kind of wish we weren't getting it because it seems pretty ridiculous. Also, even though we filed jointly, due to my incredibly tiny paychecks from working on campus, I will be recieving back approximately 60% of what I made. WTF? Why are you giving me literally hundreds more than was taken out in taxes?

You're missing one option.

Ours is going to pay down our credit card debt for the roof we had to buy in January.

I thought it was a tax rebate. "Stimulus payment" sounds like a laxative.

Frantikgirl, you should be saying "take that Henry Paulson". and even then, putting it in the bank is not going to give you a return above inflation. I havent seen a CD rate around 4% for a few months now.

and even then, the stimulus cheques might actually contribute to inflation. if they arent spent they will simply add reserves to the banks who need them. but is this really in the best interest of the nation which needs a long overdue correction of prices?

on the other hand my ETF portfolio picks are slaying it today.

My rebate should be $600 for myself and $300 for one child for a total of $900, all of which will go towards a credit card, assuming it's not paid off by then by some other means.

If you're gay and have kids and a stay-at-home partner, you're FUCKED, cuz you only get half, since you're considered head-of-household instead of married, EVEN IF YOU'RE FUCKING MARRIED. Thanx to Bill ("Re-elect me! I signed DOMA!") Clinton and Senator Patty ("I voted for DOMA!") Murray.

$1000 to savings, $800 for things we've neglected (home maintenance, oil change for the car, new clothes - I haven't bought a shirt in four years). So I guess we'll be doing almost half our part toward stimulating the economy.

I'm going to take my stimulus package check and give it back to the IRS. The whole thing is a joke, we give you a rebate against the taxes you will pay in 2008 in the hopes that we can keep the economy afloat until after the election. Does this fix any of the problems we have now? No? If this actually does buy the economy some time will Congress use this time productively to address structural problems in our tax code and regulatory systems? Probably not. Given this, if you have the option, why not just tell Congress, the Administration and the banks to fuck off and just give the money back to the government or put it in savings or do anything but spend it.

Any other year, I'd be getting the full $600. But since I chose to quit my office job and travel the world last year, no stimulation for me.

If I *were* getting something, I'd promptly donate it to one of the many non-profit organizations that have had their funding slashed by the Bush team. When the economy suffers, their funding suffers, AND more people are in need of these community safety nets, so those most in need are left doubly screwed.
