If you went to tonight’s party at Havana AND one of the past Slog Happys at Moe Bar, which venue did you prefer?
Those of you who missed it tonight missed many fine mojitos, lots of small talk, and a good turnout, including Michael Strangeways, Lindy West, and every single healthy Stranger writer.
I'm sorry I had to miss the party, especially since I said I would be there. But we are prepping for a big design review at work, and things went late.
By the time I left the office it was 7:30, and I figured it was too late to head over. Was I wrong? How late did things go?
I like the atmosphere at Havana better (and the lovely and attentive bar staff!), but Moe's small space means you have to get into people's conversations and interact. Havana was big enough that we didn't all circulate as much as at Moe. I think I'd like Moe if, you know, they had a couple extra bartenders.
Getting to/from Capitol Hill is a pain in the ass.
You know, we have all these bus lines from every neighborhood in the city which go directly downtown, right? This would make any bar downtown a more convenient venue for many (most?) Slog readers.
Once I found the place, I really liked it. Nice big floor plan so it was comfortable, though there COULD be a big round table in the middle of that thing.
It was great seeing everyone and getting drunk w/ y'all. I even refrained from yelling at Will in Seattle!
aside from the hidden entrance, havana was a terrific venue for happy hour. i was thrilled to bits to meet david schmader and his lovely partner jake, and i even shook dan savage's hand! i nearly plotzed, i tell you. amy kate was never lovelier, brendan, paul, eli and brad are very cute, and i can't wait to do it again next month.

It was a little disappointing that there was enough room that people weren't forced into awkward conversation and touching. Also Mac & Jack's on tap would have been nice. That being said, I liked the vibe at Havana better and the fact they were playing the Pixies for the first hour I was there.
The barkeeps were nice - we got into a discussion of "what exactly is a Windsor knot, a double Windsor knot? The mojitos were sensational. Found out Mr. Poe disliked "No Country for Old Men" (now there's a non sequitur). Never did learn how to pronounce "W7ngman". Original Monique and I decided there were only about four of us vanishing species who prefer Hillary over Obama - FOR WHATEVER REASON. Met Comte and Napoleon XIV and TMS. And Dan caught me off guard by introducing himself as "Ecce Homo" - and I thought, well, yeah, what a great cover.

Man. I had a mojito in Anaheim in Downtown Disney.
It was not a very good mojito. Far too sweet. I think they used Sprite in it.
I liked Havana, once I was able to actually find it. Yeesh.

In a month, I'll no longer have an excuse to miss these: I'm nearly finished with my last quarter at UW.
Dammit, I was stuck getting drunk in Belltown.
I wanna know if they could to a proper Caiparinha.
I couldn't find a date and am anxious enough about Slogging tomorrow, so I wasn't up to flying solo tonight.
Besides, I think I am getting your guy's cold. How did you do this to me though the internet?!?

I thought only people in the midwest used "your guy's".
Was Bellevue Ave. there?
@9 - transplant?

Moe Bar - while Havana is a better space, the problem is that Moe Bar forces you to interact way more often.
Plus, Emma at Moe Bar is way hot. No, even hotter.
@10 - yes, he was. he even had a professional nametag.
She probably misses you already.
@21: You met an imposter.
No, he was a dual imposter.
dual imposter?
anyway i arrived at my usual 8:45, just to see the last 6-7 people gabbing. I had my 2 double vodka crans and busted on out.
