Avril Lavigne is pretty hot (for a girl).
Can't help you with the ribs though.
jones's bbq in columbia city. 2 pounds of rib tips ~ $10 (some days).
Stéphane Rousseau.
Sorry. Not clear: It needs to be a male star, famous only in Canada.
I guess the Mariners' own Erik Bedard doesn't qualify, then.
How about Georges St. Pierre, the UFC fighter?
http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=fighter.detail&pid=330
I think he's pretty hot, but what do I know?
I am a big fan of the ribs at Pig Iron BBQ in Georgetown or at the Frontier Room in Belltown
no help on the french-canadian thing, but here's some places for great ribs:
* Pig Iron BBQ on 1st Ave S in Georgetown
* OK Corral on Greenwood Ave
* Pecos Pit BBQ on 1st Ave near Starbucks HQ
jones there ok. if you really want a treat--go to Pig Iron BBQ on 1st ave in Georgetown.
Oh, sorry, didn't know he couldn't be famous elsewhere. I'm afraid GSP is known here, or I probably wouldn't know him myself....
Pisces FTW!!1one
He's not famous only in Canada, but George St. Pierre (UFC) is hawt!
Good BBQ choices.
Male Quebecois pop star ... sorry, no clue.
I make some pretty mean ribs. But I live in Michigan.
Hot French Canadian diver: Alexandre Despatie.
Georges St. Pierre is fucking hot. Look at those calves and quads when he's throwing a roundhouse kick.
Marc-Andre Fleury. NHL goalie. Only famous in Pittsburgh and Canada.
Justin Trudeau.
Poe, we do rock don't we?
Best ribs I have had in greater Seattle area, hands-down, were from Steel Pig BBQ, off Aurora, near the Seattle Center. Better than Pecos, Pig Iron, Jones, Cave Man, Dixie's, etc. etc.
I don't know from French Canadians, but I second the above recommendations of Pig Iron BBQ. Damn, that sounds tasty right now...
Avoid Tony Romas with a passion, those are the exact opposite of what you need
I don't know much about him, other than he was on the Rick Mercer Report (CBC), but Alexandre Despatie is kind of cute.
http://www.alexandredespatie.ca/cgi-cs/cs.waframe.index?lang=2
It stretches the meaning of the word "nearby", but I've had lots of ribs around these parts, and by far the best were at Stan's, in Issaquah.
Anyone who says different is a liar, and probably a vegetarian.
@18
We're the best of the best. When we aren't lying our bloody teeth out, we're talking about shit nobody cares about! WOOT!
bbq if you want to take it home.. jones bbq in columbia city is the isht..plus they have sweet potato pie, way too sweet peach cobbler and sometimes coconut cake. siitin in there is a little cold and loud and it's always sports on the tv screens. however 'horton hears a who' is playing at the columbia city thater tomorrow night so maybe y'all might want dinner and a movie.
pig iron has acceptable ribs but you get less for the money. but they got beer
for dining in..ok corral in greenwood is best because the owner is so dang amiable and the music would be better. it's more like sittin in his kitchen though.. very down homey..
wherever ya'll go, have a lovely time and tell your son i said 'happy birfday'
Another vote for Jones BBQ. They also have the BEST baked beans I've ever tasted in my life.
Screw ribs! Fried chicken and hush puppies at Kingfish!
Alexandre Despatie is a diver, really hot, and apparently hung like a horse. I'm at work so I can't look for pics, but it's not hard to find several shots of him diving with a huge bulge leading the way.
Roy Dupouis. Yum.
@29
For the hot french canadian man, of course. Or you could always go with Roch Voisine, though he's like, three parts creepy to one part cute-ish. So maybe not...
Marc-André Grondin? Francis Ducharme?
Pig Iron in Georgetown - best in town but pricey.
Smokin' Pete's in Ballard - quality varies, but when they're good, they're tops.
OK Corral in Greenwood - be hungry.
Je ne sais rien sur les Canadiens.
For tasty ribs in Georgetown, I like Calamity Jane's in addition to Pig Iron. For a Canada-famous Quebecois actor (very handsome but maybe not "scorchingly hot"), try Roy Dupuis. He even played a famous hockey player for the Montreal Canadians.
Yes... Pisces unite!
Definitely the Pecos Pit. Be sure to go early and bring a bag for boilin' home -- they close at like, 3.30 or so. But they are SOOOOO worth it. Just friggin' amazing.
Jones was OK; nothing to write home about, not not bad at all.
I like the Longhorn quite a bit.
And Willie's Taste Of Soul is the most overrated crap shack in existence. Last time I went, the ribs were all bone, hardly any meat, and the sauce was weak. Definitely weaksauce sauce. Never went back again.
I'm curious to try the Dallas BBQ & Catering that recently opened up on Jackson, though. Anyone been to that one?
I am also a huge fan of the Steel Pig -- the best ribs I've EVER had. EVER EVER EVER. But sadly, both locations are closed. If I am mistaken and they have opened up again elsewhere, LET ME KNOW because I will basically be there RIGHT THEN because I miss them so much. My god, that place is the best.
You guys are totally making me hungry - I can't decide which one I want more right now, a hot French Canadian athlete, or a tasty plate of ribs? hmmm, decisions...
Dan,
Depends on what style of BBQ you like, but for my bucks R&L Home of Good BBQ on Yesler & 18th tops Jones (a close 2nd).
With R&L you'll get real-deal southern BBQ from a 50-yr old family-run business (same family BTW) with down-home friendliness to boot.
Jones does have good ribs, you won't be sorry there, but R&L has hands-down better brisket IMHO. R&L's sides are not the best (Jones is better), but for pure meat & atmosphere, they would be my pick.
Another vote for OK Corral. Riz is right, it's EXTREMELY down-home. It doesn't really look like a restaurant. There may be babies crawling across your feet, and the dudes at the next table may be digging in to recalcitrant car parts instead of pork, and there will be a woman on the phone the whole time you're there. But the meat will satisfy. HUGE portions; you'll think they've made a mistake. They haven't made any mistake, it's just good.
I second the vote for ribs at Calamity Jane's in Georgetown. You pick up the rib and the meat literally falls off...and it's soooo good! They also have an awesome Shepherd's Pie, sure to be a hit with a boy DJ's age.
Another vote for Despatie. I just don't follow enough hockey anymore, although even when I did, I always lusted after the Swedes.
Jean-Luc Gagnon has been ripping and winning the X games for years in half and best trick.
For Ribs, Gordy's in North Bend can not be beat!
Hot Quebecois guys seem to be abundant. at a gym in seattle that's affiliated to a college (you guess it), there's this hot Quebecois that teaches a martial arts class. smart, handsome, and a very hot body. unfortunately, str8 as an arrow....
I always wanted Roch Voisine to father my children.
Rib Guy has it pegged on my vote for R&L Home of Good BBQ (keep going back after for 20+yrs now). One issue:
TIME WARNING-it might take a stupidly long time to get your order together-but the brisket is awesome and it comes with whitebread so utterly processed and full of air that it sucks up every last ever lovin drippin bit of BBQ'd fat and sauce like a sponge while imparting absolutely no flavor to get in the way of yum yum yummy sloooow cooked cow. If you need faux painted walls, juried art show rejects, and ambient lighting and are on a time line - avoid at all costs-this is a joint and I wouldn't have it any other way!
I'm a pisces, too. My birthday is Monday, just so you all know.
The General. It's just outside seattle, technically, but if you're willing to drive 20 minutes or so, it's worth it.
Or you could make some!
At the supermarket, find one of those tinfoil things they use to cook turkeys in. Fill it with a rack of pork ribs and water. Bring it to a boil. Let it boil about 45 minutes to an hour, using tongs to flip the ribs every ten minutes. I keep mine covered with tinfoil.
Once they're a bit tender, pat them dry and then smother them in your favorite BBQ sauce, the thinner the better. I generally take Hunt's Mesquite and add a whole clove of pressed garlic and cayenne pepper to make it smokey-spicey. Like me.
Take your slathered ribs and wrap them in tinfoil. Make sure no sauce can leak out. There should be a little ventilation at the top, but not too much.
Put the ribs in your oven at a medium-high setting. Not too hot, or they'll cook too quickly, but not a straight medium or they won't cook all the way through. Make sure they're as close to the middle of the oven as possible, not too close to the top or bottom burners.
Cook these ribs in just this way for about an hour and 15 minute and check on them. With the tongs, the bone should wiggle without bringing all the meat with it, but should also not slide out of the meat. If wiggling the bone shows the meat to still be stiff, cook a little longer.
I like to take mine out half way and rotate them, while adding more sauce, but that's just me.
After an hour and a half or so, you should have PERFECT ribs, with the sauce cooked into them and the meat perfectly moist. They will be messy, in a good way. Paired with cheap beer and an unhurried breeze from over the Sound, this is a perfect way to start your summer early.
This recipe was shared with me by an 87-year old black man who cooks at the Blue Note Cafe in Memphis, where he's worked for over fifty years. These are the ribs Elvis ate. If they're good enough for ol' Presly, they're good enough for you.
This place is a fuckin' meat market.
Here's a photo of Justin Trudeau - he also has a brother, Sacha.
http://www.clevernet.net/pierre_trudeau/images/justin_trudeau.jpg
Just celebrated a major zero-ending birthday yesterday, so Pisces rock. But there are three things lurking that could impact their otherwise magical existences, viz:
Drinks, Drugs and Dreams
Je ne sais la plâce du porc...
@14 - Despatie is definitely it. Scorching hot, yes. Admirably packs out the Speedos, too.
There's always Antoine Vermette (Senators) if you're not worried about ticking off a bunch of habs fans.
why?
...my house! I'm from the South, and can grill some great ribs, Carolina-style! Unfortunately, I've been to the places listed above, and they don't really do justice to meat.
Another vote for the OK Corral. Best BBQ in Seatown.
Jet Bar and Grill in Mill Creek, does it in the manner described by No. 46, a trick picked up from the former Rory's....
kalan porter
Smokin Petes on 65th in Ballard, they also have awesome brisket and sides.
Dupuis and either Trudeau - oh yes, please!
Also: Marc-Andre Grondin (check out the movie C.R.A.Z.Y.), Mitsu (you didn't say it couldn't be a woman), Danny Gilmore (doesn't sound like a French name, but his credits are Quebecois-heavy).
Roch Voisine - really?
Marie-Josée Croze is, to me, the hottest Québecoise (woman). I also used to really like Miriam Bédard, back in the day before she went nuts, when she was just a hot biathlete. As for the hottest Québecois (man), dunno.
The Governor General of Canada, Michaëlle Jean, is Quebecoise, and she's pretty sexy. She's the Queen's representative to the whole country, and I imagine for some people that might be somewhat of a turn-on.
And probably for others, somewhat of a turn-off.
Matt Fucking Hickey, where's the smoke? You need smoke to make that pink ring. 200 degrees for fourteen hours, that's how you cook ribs.
And Elvis was the worst garbagemouth of all time. He'd eat shit if you spread it on white bread and sprinkled it with sugar. Do not take your barbecue hints from a man who didn't know if he was standing up or sitting down most of his life.
Despatie (the diver) would be my first choice, too, but Jason Cadieux, the actor from "Lilies" (1996) is an excellent second choice.
As a Canadian living in Seattle, Catriona Lemay Doan has my vote:
http://www.sbhac.ca/beta/images/lemaydoan.jpg
She has it all!
Do any of these places specialize in Pit Bull Ribs?
Then DJ and Dan would both be happy.
Well, maybe not DJ.
Here's another shot of her in case you still aren't convinced:
http://www.caaws.ca/girlsatplay/heroes/2002/stories/lemaydoan.htm
Some of these have already been said, but here's a few Quebecois "comediens" (the word we use for actors) in no particular order...
Marc-Andre Grondin
Roy Dupuis
Stephane Rousseau
Claude Legalut
Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge
hope that helps!
The best ribs in Seattle can be found at Longhorn, at 1st and Yesler - definitely the best for takeout. But the second best are at OK Corral, and the atmosphere is pretty awesome there compared to anywhere else.
I wonder what it would be like to have Dan as a dad...it seems like you could probably never come up with anything that would shock him! hehe.
First off, if I were Canadian, I'd be that scorching hot French Candian pop star, actor or athelete.
Got to Dixies for some good BBQ!
cedric
