And I know for a fact you know some of them, Dan. Queer as a three dollar bill, right there in Key Arena rootin' for the T-Birds. I didn't hear any homophobic slurs, though. In New York, homophobic slurs are as much a part of the daily conversation as "fuggeddaboudit" is.

I'm curious to know what else goes on that people are complaining about. I mean, if you cancel your season tickets because of 30 seconds of a portion of the crowd chanting "Ho-mo Lar-ry!" that's perhaps a little severe.

And the larger point, I think, is that lots of traditions at these types of events are idiotic and borderline offensive (i.e. the tomahawk chop at Atlanta Braves games), but I doubt the chanting fans are participating *just because* they hate gay people.

I'm going to see the Thunderbirds tonight. That has nothing to do with this thread, I just thought I'd share.

uh, DUH!

Beefy athletes with funny accents, few teeth, issues with alcoholism and a tendency to having a difficult time getting back to their motel room after a game, make for a fun and easy "date"....

also, see "Slapshot"

Seriously, Dan? You're going with the whole astonished-that-gay-people-actually-might-enjoy-sports joke? I honestly expected a little better from you.

Of course there are gay hockey fans - my brother's one of them, and he's in NYC.

And in Canada they can (and do) get married ...

That is a lame joke Savage. That said, it is surprising that gay men are willing to go anywhere near something that has periods.

@12: See? Now that's funny. Or, at the very least, somewhat clever.

Dan must be taking humor notes from Jay Leno.

When I was a kid the most comfortable place to sleep was in front of the T.V.
during a Black Hawks game. Now hockey puts me right to sleep.

Uh, Dan, remember Antoine Vermette? The "H" in NHL is for "hockey". It made him the man he is.

I grew up in a town of 25,000 people in North Dakota, where there are 15 year-round ice arenas. It doesn't matter if you're gay or straight, hockey is the best fuckin' game in the world.

Yes Dan...
Many gay hockey fans and gay hockey players too. My boyfriend (Chris Brand) was quoted in the article. I've been out of touch with SLOG this week, because we were away in Montreal for a GAY HOCKEY Tournament...

You should promote this and other gay sports. There is a Gay Hockey League that plays against 'straight' teams and boy do those straight boys get mad when the gays win.

Chris' team went undeafeted last season and won the tournament in Montreal on a World Team this past weekend.

There's even a gay hockey calendar! Lots of eye candy!
