Not only was this a horrible crime, but the university alerted the students via e-mail and phone message "Hawk Alert" telling them there was a gunman on the loose. (With no helpful information, like "stay where you are" or where the crime occured, which was actually rather far from campus.) So several thousand people, myself included (while in class on campus), get freaked out thinking of VA Tech and NIU. Then they send another message saying not to call the police because the lines are jammed. And now it turns out the guy didn't even have a gun? I feel awful for this terrible crime, but I am so frustrated with the university's shitty handling of the whole thing. Sitting in that classroom not knowing what was happening was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life, and the action by the university was totally unjustiied here. Ugh.
