If I'm not wrong, the person in charge of bringing art to the Sound Transit stations is Barbara Luecke, who used to be public art director for 4 Culture/King County. She's bringing some amazing stuff to the stations, such as Mike Ross (of the "Big Rig Jig"." She's a prime mover behind the new Roosevelt Skate Park and was one of the people most responsible for the creation of the Fremont Troll. She's definitely an unsung local hero.

i am utterly nonplussed by this commission. as much as you all love ellen's CARTOONS, it is likely that her decorations will be as sympathetic to the architecture as the apache "art" on the seahawks stadiums' north facade.
and then they will shortly become dated. like all the boring crap in the sculpture park.

RC, unfortunately for SEattle, what is considered edgy is really just polemic bullshit that fancies itself edgy. Is it really edgy to have a mural depicting a dolphin sucking off a marlboro man type character while they both smoke? no, it's just trying to shock people for the sake of shock.

I agree with Reality Check. Public art doesn't have to be timid and sanitized. Nor does it have to be boho trash. Just don't paint the escalators to match the art, as Ms. Forney did here.
Worst public art of all time? The hyper-realistic magician paintings at Sea-Tac, concourse D. Actually, all Sea-Tac art is evil.

I gotta take issue with Fnarf @ 23. A lot of surprisingly cool and very local art has made its way into SeaTac over the last couple years. Hell, someone at the airport has installed portraits by Annie Grgich, sculptures by Shawn Nordfors, ceramics by Eric Nelsen, all of them young and powerful local artists who (except for minor temporary exhibits) aren't represented ANYWHERE ELSE in this entire city. Plus there's permanent things like the Robert Rauschenberg installation or the big painting by Frank Stella, which are also the only examples in the region.
Yeah, the talking fountains are silly and the endless celebrations of Pilchuck glass are long stale, but for an airport, SeaTac is way above the curve.
I'd like to see a 300 foot mural of Vanished Capitol Hill featuring images of Jack in the Box, Manray and assorted homeless, teen meth heads with pitbulls.

Not a great choice, Forney's a second-rate illustrator at best.
