Hmm, perhaps they're on to something...

I kid, I kid. What would I do all day if Slog didn't have comments?

Comments are not always useful on blogs. On some blogs, like Slog, the comments are actually the best part.

On other blogs, like Daily Kos, the comments are too numerous and often off-the-deep end that I rarely bother reading. On newspaper Web sites, blog or article comments are inevitably from right wing or left wing wackos and add nothing to any discourse or to anyone's understanding of the issues. I don't read them, either.

Many blogs, like Language Log, don't do reader comments at all--a good decision for that blog because everybody fancies him- or herself an armchair linguist, or "cares passionately about language," and you have to keep that chaff from contaminating the real linguistics going on there somehow.

Who is this Andrew Sullivan, of whom you speak?

I have nothing to say to that man.

His is the most popular blog on the net, and is probably one of the most agitated, which means his comments count is likely to be 2000+ for every piece. No one wants to read that. I think the comparison to Daily Kos is an apt one; the comments there are HORRIBLE, evil things. I voted no.

I'll post craigslists ads I think he should answer.

Comments should be restricted to local blogs like this on a precinct-by-precinct basis. The winning ideas at the local level should be delegated to move on to the national blogs. Partially completed thoughts will be rounded up to the nearest whole idea.

Since when did Andrew Sullivan become the most popular blog on the net? What the fuck are you smoking, Fnarf?

What, you mean that SLOG isn't Andrew Sullivan's blog?

Then why do we have to read so much of his content here?

I would pay money not to read other people's comments.

if it got rid of every single potential mr. poe, i'd be up for it on here too in a heartbeat.

when do registered comments start already!

Registered comments aren't going to solve the problem, Terry. Removing them entirely will.

But then a majority of readers would probably stop coming, making Slog (almost) as irrelevant as your music blog.

Hugz!

I read it somewhere, Poe. I meant single-writer blogs, not big corporate sites like Daily Kos. Sullivan has a freaking TON of readers.

10 "I hate Hillary" posts to every 1 GOOD post. I stopped reading that blog a while ago because I figured out anything good he had to say would get repeated somewhere... like here.

I don't get why the no comments voters care. If you don't want to read comments, you simply don't read them. But by voting no, they are not only saying no for themselves, but trying to prevent others from being able to participate in a comments section.

I don't get it.

Not surprised his crowd's more on the "I don't like it so no one else should have it" side of things.
