Slog - Comments on Clinton on The Daily Show

Not the funniest Jon Stewart interview ever. Not the shortest or most hard-hitting, either. But worth a watch as we await the results later today....

Well, that was a missed opportunity if I ever saw one. I thought he might actually ask some questions on the issues, or take her to task on the 3AM ad. John, you disappoint me.

Comment by Aislinn

I honestly enjoyed it. After watching it last night, I thought, "Well done." She showed her human side, her sense of humor, and acknowledged the Daily Show as a great way to reach young people.

@3: Seriously? They made fun of that ad earlier in the episode, minutes before her interview. I'm POSITIVE that, as a condition of her appearing, he wasn't allowed to "take her to task." That would be rather counterproductive to, you know, campaigning. It's nothing to be disappointed in him for.

I saw it last night and thought it was a shame she wasn't there in person (obviously she wasn't going to go to NYC the night before Texas and Ohio...). The satellite made it really hard to get a sense of how much of the awkwardness was her vs. the time delay.

I must say, the couple of times that Obama has been on TDS, I don't think he's done much better. The first time I saw him on the show, I was really excited, but, he just came across as sort of wooden and boring. Again, maybe the satellite issue...

I usually enjoy McCain's appearances though (of course, a few years ago they were more enjoyable.).

That interview had me a yawnin' in the first two minutes. And flipping the channel within five.

If that's Hillary "showing her human side" I'm starting to wonder if she's half cyborg... Which would actually make her more likeable in my opinion. Fuck a woman or a black guy... I want a robot for President! Wheeee!

Comment by Lloyd Clydesdale

Re Gun toting robots. UAVs are just the beginning of what's in store for miniaturized military weaponry and us.

Think nano. Bee-sized flying weapons and reconaissance. And nano "fish-bots" swimming the ocean is large numbers.

Interestingly, game planning is already serious conversation for when (in a war scenario) one side's bots kill the other's. From military.com:

"But the conundrum remains of how one side in a shooting war will respond if its unmanned combat vehicles are defeated by those of its opponent, while it still maintains the will to resist. Humans will surely then be back in the loop, making decisions in the heat of action and shedding blood. Future nano-combat might serve only as a trip-wire, or a curtain-raiser, to a more conventional war between manned vehicles. Aviation enthusiasts should note that this would seem to apply to aerial combat as much as to undersea combat!"

Comment by Satan's Penis

It's 3 AM on March 5, 2008. I just saw Erica C. Barnett madly stomping down Pine Street, near Broadway. Evidently, she's taking the big, bad bitch-slapping that Hillary Clinton just got from Darkie Toothpaste, er, I mean, Barack Obama really hard. She looked a lot like this:

Only a minority of poll respondents want Clinton to stay in the even if she only wins OH or TX today, not both.

twice as many want her to stay in the race.

conclusion:
the broader public does not carry the kind of hatred you see on Slog every day. the borader public is relatively calm about the fact that ther eis an electoral contest going on. they don't get freaked out about it.

And another fact derived from math:
many who support Obama like Clinton, too, and agree she should stay in. Mathematical fact there.
