Highly recommend Donna Barr, she's always been great on panels and is a fascinating person as well.
Plus, she does great comix.
I will never go back to NorWesCon. I went once. A convention that is supposed to be about science fiction was about everything else: goths, fetishism, polyamory, cosplay, etc. Worst, more people were getting trashed and laid publicly than were doing anything book related.
Norwescon blows shit in fuck in tubes of shit. Fuck.
I'll be at Heim's reading tonight--thinking about sucking his dick.
Here's what I know of NorWesCon: a former roommate was notorious for showing up there in his goth-pirate-industrial finest, and, at age 27, nailing every girl under the age of 20 he could find. Sometimes 3 or 4 a night, and usually under the influence of E. This does not endear NorWesCon to me.
However, every year I look at the schedule and see something that I really, really would like to go to (Joss Whedon singalong), and something that makes me cringe (Filk open circle, bardic open circle).
The only time I ever went to Norwescon I won a coffee mug in a lottery, and I saw a zaftig coworker of mine in a low-cut fantasyland costume. It was a very good day.
@2 - you forgot gaming. They have that too.
But it's one of the weaker cons in this region, IMHO as a former SMOF and SMOG.
Whether or not you enjoy standing around watching fat people run around in costumes (honestly what did you expect from a sci-fi convention? hollywood elite?) I'll be hosting two awesome games in the public gaming areas.
