A Note from Geraldine Ferraro

posted by on March 12 at 16:03 PM

Via CNN:

Dear Hillary –

I am stepping down from your finance committee so I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself about what is at stake in this campaign.

The Obama campaign is attacking me to hurt you. I won’t let that happen.

Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do to make this a better world for my children and grandchildren.

You have my deep admiration and respect.

Gerry

Poor Gerrie! They'd never be attacking her if she didn't have that damned vagina.

My dad called Mondale/Ferraro "Wally and The Beaver." I was 15 and didn't get it.

Nope! Doing a pretty good job of hurting her yourself!

I wish I could take back my first Presidential vote for her as VP. She's nasty.

I think I just vomited up my vagina.

Yes, the Obama campaign made you racist. Obviously.

what boggles my mind is that this kind of behavior seems to be tolerated in the democratic party.

turn. the. page. already.

a clinton administration would be like her campaign: cynical, self-serving, secretive, and amoral.

i expect more from my party.

Always blame the victim.

Yeah, that sure sounds like an "apology".

Not.

@7; I agree, but the difference was if HRC were president when this happened, Ferraro would never have stepped down.

not to be rude, but jesus, she is one delusional bitch.

this is sad...now she probably won't get to be the new ambassador to Cloud CuckooLand...

I'd totally pay to watch her and Barbara Bush catfight to the death.

She's a bitch. There, I said it.

please watch the sexist remarks when pointing out how ferraro was racist, incorrect, and unapologetic in this matter. they are not necessary, distract the issue, invalidate your critique, and diminish any positive changes this could have on the present campaign.

Thank God we all are singing the same song and there are no voices of dissent in this thread. It's mighty reassurring to all think the same way and have no one challenge it.

It proves one is right, in fact.

What kind of delusional world is she in? Does she believe that the only ones criticizing her obvious race-baiting tactics are Obama supporters? EVERYONE is attacking her...everyone with a brain, anyway (or at least a conscience).

Ship her off to the loony bin, where she can grapple with her senility in private and away from the rest of us.

Okay, I'd totally pay to watch her and George H.W. Bush swordfight to the death.

Victim complex much?

@14: Really? Have you been living under a rock? This entire election cycle has been about race, gender, generations, etc.

@19. what? i'm confused... where did i say this election wasn't about race, gender, generations or anything else? not that i think those are the sole or primary things this cycle has been about.

but i certainly didn't say whatever it is you think i said.

20: I think 19 was trying to say that the racism, sexism, etc., was always there and will continue.

"a clinton administration would be like her campaign: cynical, self-serving, secretive, and amoral."

Well said! This is my problem with her as a candidate. We know we'd get the same old politics as usual!

Look how Obama is running his campaign, well organized, well funded and well spoken. I'd like to see him run the country.

#22, you pretty much nailed my thoughts on Clinton lately, which are: If she can't see the writing on the wall about her campaign, why would I trust her to have forethought as president?

@2 - I might have to give up my feminist membership card, but that made me LOL!

This whole episode is so very calculated to stir up the voters in PA. I grew up in pittsburgh and let me tell you the racism runs DEEP there. Guaranteed this is solely to stir up that enormous group who think the black guy is taking all the benefits and getting the easy breaks. Shutdown all the industry in the area over the last 30 years and they gotta blame someone. Since there are few Mexicans there the blacks will suffice. I am hating the Clinton candidacy. Ferraro is a disgrace!

Ferraro made a bad decision by saying that in a public forum worded in the manner that it was, even if the quotes most everyone is basing their opinion on are taken out of context. But the accusations of racism directed towards her are absurd. Look at her record on civil rights then eat crow.

she' a piece of shit.

Posted by catnextdoor | March 12, 2008 9:58 PM

@26,

It's entirely possible to fight for civil rights and still be an idiot on racism. Case in point: my father who loved to boast about marching from Selma to Montgomery, but who held plenty of racist opinions. His position on Rodney King would make any rational person weep.

@28, I agree that people's actions can sometimes conflict with some of their beliefs. But I also think that many anti-racist and anti-sexist people can be as guilty of not logically considering all sides of an issue as the worst evangelical right wing Republican. What was your father's and what is your view about the riots resulting from the Rodney King incident? As a person who was attacked because of my skin color on that awful evening, I would be very interested in hearing about it.

You are a sexist fucktard. Welcome to the Republican party.

i still find it odd how some people seem okay using sexist comments to deride another for for making racist comments....

By a "better world" does she mean a world in which she is free to be a racist hag?

That doesn't sound "better" to me. That sounds... the same.

@32 - Baffling, isn't it?
