This commercial's at least 8-10 years old. It's been circulating around the Internet since 2000. I saw it back when I at UW then and it was being placed on everyone's local file shares then. It's still funny to watch though.

@5 - It's dutch. The car has a NL (for The Netherlands) sticker on the back of it at the end.

Speaking as (an American) someone who lived in the Netherlands for two and half years, I experienced situations like this firsthand in record stores. On more than one occasion I found myself in a store that was playing quite explicit rap, but nobody ever seemed to bat an eyelid. (And I'm not talking little hole in the wall places - I'm talking major chains, tons of kids and old people, etc etc.)

But the other important part here is that practically EVERYBODY in the Netherlands (or at least/most certainly any young person in the major cities) speaks quite fluent English, which to me makes the whole thing a bit stranger. Because if some store here in the US played an explict Dutch (or French, or German) recording, no one would most likely know. But they Dutch most definitely DO know.

I don't know that there's an actual point in here - but I think it at least falls solidly into the "things that make you go hmmm" category.

You need to understand English to understand the commercial. Or at least ask your kids why they're laughing.

Yeah, since the Dutch all know English to some extent, everyone gets to "get it" while laughing at the folks who don't. Notice that the parents look maybe more like grandparents. It's definitely considered old-fashioned not to have good english.

Maybe people in the Netherlands just don't have a problem with the lyrics. Unlike the puritanical element in this country who act like Victorian schoolmarms having the vapors when it comes to any mention of sexuality in public.

@15 Exactly. People here in Belgium (where I am) and The Netherlands have much less of a problem with that. Lyrics rarely get sensored and sex jokes are rarely if ever edited from prime time tv shows.
An example? From what I've seen in the US when I was last there, a show like Family Guy airs at ten PM or something? Because of content issues? Here, it shows at about four PM, right when the kids are coming home from school. And nobody minds.
