dude, anything building related, real estate related, land related is already tainted by the most greedy, manipulative, dickwads in the business world. the oil companies have their bad points but at least the oil companies arent going out of their way to pretend to be nice guys giving Joe Six Pack a deal of a lifetime.

fuck, look at their fucking newsletter, where they spend half of it bitching and moaning about losing workers comp workarounds like retro, and L&I payments. BIAW members probably hire at least 25% undocumented from the parking lots of home depot and you know they arent paying L&I for those daily cash workers.

I expect more out of Stranger writers, a group I generally admire.

Ummm haven't you seen the striking similarities between the two women in question? They look, talk, dress, scold, scowl, and laugh alike!

To someone from another state, they do a double take stare when seeing Gregoire's picture, thinking they are looking at Billary.

Gregoire is just another wannabe like Clinton. At least powerful woman leaders in other countries have earned their stripes. Those two are definitely not top leadership material. They need to learn from other more powerful women who actually have tact, discipline, and genuine authority.

Sorry to say... the truth hurts.. These two have serious credibility issues when it comes right down to it.

We just need to call a spade a spade.

elenchos, just because Gregoire doesn't agree with the death with dignity initiative, that doesn't make her a "Christian fundie". That's just lazy on your part.

I happen to believe that people have a right to end their lives on their terms, but I understand why people - normal, intelligent people - might have ethical qualms about it.

Isn't it weird how Roman Catholics have to go completely off the deep end before they get called fundamentalist? If that. Mother Theresa is never called a fundie, but what was she? Whereas an evangelical with the same beliefs is lumped in with all manner of snake handlers and tent revival nutjobs.

Catholics, whose beliefs take into account both tradition and scripture, are by definition not fundamentalists. Fundamentalism isn't an insult, it's a word that describes the 20th century movement within Protestantism to "return" to a literal interpretation of the Bible. When it's used to describe adherents of other religions, it's usually in a similar sense: literal interpretation of sacred texts. That's not what Gregoire is doing.

Many Muslims, Hindus and Jews are understandably not happy about having a term originating in U.S. Protestant squabbles applied to them. Likewise, Catholic conservatives bristle at any hint that there are Catholic fundamentalists. For most of the 20th century, Catholicism and fundamentalism were mortal enemies, each representing the whore of Babylon to the other.

A broader definition of fundamentalism is a reaction to modernism: "It does not imply styles of reading scripture or level of education, but rather resistance to the relativism of contemporary Western societies.... Modern, relativistic societies actively produce fundamentalisms."

You can still say that doesn't apply to Gregoire, but being Catholic in of itself doesn't preclude being a fundie.

That could be said about anyone, but the burden of proof falls on the idiots who think only certain people should have the right to do what they want with their own lives. Agree to disagree, but never tell anyone they shouldn't be Ambitious. Is that what U.S. children are supposed to believe now? "Hey kids, don't grow up to be a leader, or you'll be made fun of!"
