That is actually an en-dash, I believe, which makes even less sense. An em-dash would have been better suited punctuation.

I don't think it's meant to be a hyphen; I think it's meant to be an em dash. It's still a clunky way to construct the phrase, however.

That is not a hyphen; it is a dash and it is used correctly.

It's an m dash; not a hyphen--sorry.

I think reporting on the hello kitty custom paint job pistol is much worthier of attention than all hyphen, plain dash, em- and en-dash reporting combined.

More Hello Kitty and friends reporting! I command thee!

"now under construction"

really?

also -- i think that phone number uses hyphens when it should use en-dashes.

It's improper kerning not a grammatical error.

It shoulda been a colon.

Lol typography nubs. Yes there could be more space between the dash and surrounding characters (kerning), but the main story is that christopher got ownt.

Agreed. It looks like it's meant to be a dash of some sort. That said, a colon would have been worth considering in this context. But maybe they felt it was too formal a stop.

The term for improper kerning is 'keming'

That's an em dash alright. It depends on which style manual you use, but no spaces is correct usage.

With a lot of the Stranger staff overusing emdashes—most notably Dan, Josh, and Erica—you'd think Chris would know one when he saw one.
