But uh, couldn't they at least let Charles Burns write his own script? Neil Gaiman? Lame.

Are they going to do the ending with a Weird Al "Fat"-style inflatable suit or something?

what the fuck?? a live action version of akira??? why do we americans have to fuck up Japanese masterpieces like Speed Racer?? Akira should be left untouched. I hope he has a couple of Japanese directors there to help him stay towards the original storyline and element.

Charles Burns will be doing a reading at the UW bookstore next Tuesday. So show up fi you want to assault him with movie questions.

Gaiman's pretty experienced with screenwriting, I believe. He adapted the English dub for Spirited Away at least, and probably had a big hand in the tv series Neverwhere. That's not to say that Burns isn't experienced, since I have no idea. But perhaps they nabbed Gaiman because he's more experienced with adaptation.

Japanese fans already built a working version of Kaneda's bike from Akira:

keep akira animated but i'd like to see a frame by frame redering from the comic realised as 5 or 6 films each two hours long

too bad gaiman's movies almost universally suck. I didn't know he'd adapted the Spirited Away script, though, which gives some hope.

Um.

I'm sorry, after seeing Akira (animated) and the original source ... well, it's not a good choice for live action.

There are a lot of other things I'd rather see translated - and Black Hole isn't one of them.

Don't get me wrong, I love the medium, but ...

Oooh, Neil Gaiman project. I'm not familiar with Black Hole, though (although I have seen Akira).

When Leonardo DiCaprio puts his fuzzy willie in Akira, that makes me a sad panda.
