Comment by Fnarf

According to Wikipedia, a michelada (preferred name over chelada) should have Worcestershire sauce in it, and hot sauce. Clamato is a recent innovation. It's like a Bloody Mary made with beer. That accords with my experience in Mexico (observing, not drinking; I won't touch the stuff).

Comment by kinaidos

Michelada served in a tall mug with a salted rim is a very nice drink in the afternoon in Guadalajara. I like those made at the little plaza cafe across from the Cathedral, which also happens to be conveniently located along a pretty cruisy stretch of pedestrian mall.

There is no standard recipe. The only musts are beer, lime, and salt. Salsa Tapatio is always offered as an option, and only occasionally does one find them made with a bit of tomato juice and salsa inglesa as well.
