I live in Louisiana, and even though he is a Republican, and even though he is scary conservative, Jindal has the potential to be the best thing to happen to this state in terms of politics in a long time. I can't believe I just wrote that.

But the thing you have to remember about Louisiana is that one point in the 80's you had Edwin Edwards (who was under indictment) running against David Duke (who...well, I assume you know all about him). Those were the two candidates to emerge from the runoff (there is an open primary system here for state elections). From what people who lived through that nightmare one of Edward's actual slogans was "Do the right thing - vote for the crook."

Time will tell, I guess, on Jindal's administration. I will admit, though, that he is off to a good start. He has hired actual, qualified people to head the major cabinet offices instead of political cronies. That alone puts him a step ahead of pretty much everyone who has come before.

That was a great article on Bobby Jindal. Though I disagree with some (many) of his political views, I do admire him for his action and results-oriented approach to governing. It is remarkably practical. Thanks for posting, Charles.

LoL @ 17 - I lived in New Orleans for 11 years before moving to Seattle but I still remember seeing those bumper stickers. That's what you get when you have an incumbant gov. that's been indited on corruption running against the former Grand Dragon of the KKK: "Vote for the crook - because it's important!"

Besides, EVERYONE knows that Jeb Bush is going to run in 2012 - after 4 years of a Democrat that can't fix a multi-trillion deficit without raising taxes; Jeb will look like a regular Ronald Regan. Never underestimate the lackk of short-term memory in the American people.
