From the McDermott Article: "The money "will be used to defeat fellow Democrats of Mr. McDermott," he said."

- Scumbag.

"Insurgents use mentally disabled" - and your problem is that they don't use one of them for their "decider"

why do you want Jim McDermott to retire? he's like one of the last great progressives left in congress.

Boehner likes the irony, huh?  Fine, let's run with it.

Boehner conspires with Gingrich and others to subvert an Ethics Committee inquiry and gets caught.  Does he sue the couple who illegally taped his phone call?  No, he sues Jim McDermott for the horrible crime of exposing corruption to the public.

And now McDermott will have to pay (potentially) $850,000 to Boehner, since Boehner was so viciously wronged.

That's an irony angle we should be able to get news media to bite on. What we need now is for the damage award to bring the corruption and hypocrisy back into the news cycle and cause Boehner more that $850,000 in PR damage anew.

The MySpace story deserves some more attention and action - supposedly a group called "Christian Crusaders" search Myspace for profiles they find offensive, and then mass complain to customer service.

Their strategy is to send so many emails to customer service that someone, somewhere at Myspace would delete the profile or group.

They have shut down a pro-choice group and now the Atheist and Agnostic Group.

Please complain to MySpace at http://collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=misc.contactInput&primarySubject=2&secondarySubject=13

If you have more time, go find the Christian groups on MySpace and flood customer service with complaints about how THEY are offensive, because they truly are.

@3: Generally The Stranger is not a fan of progressives, except when it comes time for public mocking (see Kucinich, Dennis). They're just so clever...

How can you be a progressive if you never actually progress anything along? McDermott isn't a progressive; he's a lone wolf. I don't even know why he bothers showing up, for all the impact he has.

McDermott probably needs to go, but Ed Murray doesn't need to replace him.

I was laid off on Dec 10 and my last day was yesterday. Woohoo! I'm another statistic!

Because your congressman should do stuff. More than just talk and get on TV and stuff.

And after this payment he still has about $750,000 more to pay. Personally.
His focus is on that. Not us.

Oh btw had to laugh at Connelly this morning. Headline says we're getting candidates and surrgates come visiting. Story says this includes a former gov. of ID doing something in ID for Obama, Kerry coming here for Obama, and Ron Paul coming here.

In other words: "Candidates Not Coming Here" would be more accurate.

You can thank the State Dems for this, they decided to be more polite" and not "jump in line" the way all those pushy other states did (CA NM AZ CO ID MO AL MI GA MN AR NJ KS CT MA and about 7 others)).

@7: Yeah, I guess you're right, since by your definition Joe Lieberman and George Bush are "progressives".

Is it just me, or could you just stick Ron Paul's face on George Wallace and that ad would still be usable today?

DOUG. @11: Why so angry? Why so stupid? Do you seriously believe that I am a Bush supporter? I have an "ITMFA" sticker on my car, do you know what that means? I donated a TON of money to defeat Bush in 2004, what the fuck did YOU do? Change the water in your bong?

Hmm... I don't read much anger in my post, just a simple analysis of your definition of "progressive".

Sometimes "progress" can only mean "a fight to keep from moving backwards". It is an upstream swim for folks like Jim "I think the president would mislead the American people" McDermott.

Congrats on the bumper sticker. Keep on driving!!!

Doug don't worry about the sad old troll.

You went a little too deep for him to understand that by his definition anyone that passed legislation would be progressing it, ergo a progressive. Which would include your named pols.

Okay, these are people who are murderers, who celebrate the mass killing of innocents, and who rationalize even the deaths of those who they're allegedly trying to help. What makes you think that using the mentally ill is too low a blow for them?

@17. i know! they probably think they are doing them a favour!

(the terrorist leaders probably feel they are doing the mentally ill a favour.)
