City Seask8 Gets a Designer

onAfter a year of City Council misfires, funding problems, opposition from Center heavies and missed opportunities, the Seask8 skatepark just got a step closer to actually being built.
The Parks Department’s Skate Park Advisory Committee (SPAC) has selected Newline Skateparks and van der Zalm & Associates (VDZ) to design and build a new skatepark at the Seattle Center.
The new park would replace the old Seask8 site, which was demolished last year.
SPAC expects to hold meetings sometime next month to talk with skaters about design ideas for the new park.

So why wasn't local kickass company grindline http://grindline.com not chosen?
These guys are setting the standard for how skate parks should work.
Newline does great work. Making some of the best, well rounded parks out there.
Let's just hope Bill G or Paul A don't kill this one.
@1 you beat me to it. Why not hire a group many think is the best available, which happens to be located in Seattle? Instead, they build in every other town in Washington. I want something as handsome as Burnside in the middle of Seattle.
Oh boy. Lets build a skatepark in the worst possible location.
I can hardly wait...
I can tell by the number of comments here that lots of people are waiting with baited breath.
yawn
@1 & @4 You can't have a design/build team in the city so the thinking goes towards, hopefully, getting Grindline for the construction phase.
