Cann't we just abort Texas from the Union and let Mexico have it?

The boy scouts make me sad. They were an important part of my boyfriend's life growing up, and I see them being of value to a boy. If I had a son, I would like him to be in boy scouts. But, like Florida, it's just something I can't do because it's so against my values.

It's sad that they make such a big deal about it. They're cheapening their organization and denying a valuable experience to a lot of kids. And even the ones that do join are getting a divisive political message that has nothing to do with scouts. Sad.

Please, won't someone just think of the children?

i like how he doesn't even think there might be gay kids who are affected by this and not just the, in his mind, dirty scout masters.

i was in southern NM when they banned indian gaming (just two tribes) and watched the jebus freaks hudreds of miles from el paso decry the tigua's and their effect on society. then forget all about the tigua's when their health care and other facilty's started to close. HYPOCRITE!!

The Boy Scouts are totally under the thumb of the Mormon Church. Didn't used to be that way, but they are now. So this should not be a shock to anyone.

My Son's in Scouts -- we have a pack meeting tonight on the Eastside. Sexual orientation never comes up at all in our troop, and religion barely even gets mentioned (my son and I are atheists).

@7, isn't Reverence part of the Scout Law? Do some troops just conveniently ignore that?

@5 - I'm sure he believes that kids only 'turn' gay when some immoral adult talks about it.

@9, shhhh

Actually it seems to be something that families can choose to do (or not) on their own. At least in our troop.

Why anyone would ask Governor Goodhair his opinion on anything is beyond me. The man barely has enough glial cells to qualify as a primate.

You're from Texas? I guess that explains a lot.

The Scouts are entitled to discriminate. I was entitled to ship them my stuff back from my boyhood days with a nasty letter. Scouts cry boo-hoo when their donative funding gets cut off. So be it. Wanna discriminate? Fine. Want people's contributions to come to your organization? Nope, if those contributions are done within a group (such as United Way) that has adequate non-discrimination policies in place.

The Boy Scouts of today are a very different animal from yesteryear. They've largely been taken over by right wingish groups (Mormon wards make up a huge number of Scout troops).

I agree with @4. The Boy Scouts should be about the children. Unfortunately, the Boy Scouts, which should be about building friendships, leadership skills as well as working and playing well with others shows that its organization now does none of that for kids. It's really too bad - hence why I shipped them my Scouting gear.

If I start a fire by rubbing two sticks together under this guy's ass would that count as my good deed for the day?

Yeah I was an Eagle Scout (seriously over-rated BTW) and now am gay. Our troop was sponsered by ....the local National Guard unit in central Montana and let me tell you that at least since the early 1980's when I was just a Cub Scout the entire organization is a bunch of right wing wackos with paramilitary designs on young kids.

Save America and ban the Boy Scouts!

Did you ever see that "canteen boy" sketch on SNL?

Why is Perry so obsessed with the boy scouts?
