Two gay guys get beat up on Cap Hill and it doesn't make the SLOG morning news?

@3 - I was thinking the same thing. Here ya go.

@3, Thanks I did not hear a word about this from the Stranger or other MSM sources in Seattle.

The super bowl should make headlines for having the most boring first three quarters ever.

I don't know whether or not waterboarding is torture, but so far, this election certainly has been. And there's still 10 months to go.

@7: True that! I haven't been this stressed out about anything in years. Almost makes me miss the days when I didn't give a shit :)

Bike safety is important. However, we need to set priorities. Public safety is MUCH MORE important. Hire more police officers!

Public Safety? Please, more violence is just what happens with density on Captial Hill. It is all good!

@6 Yeah, I'm glad I stuck around for the 4th quarter, because I was quickly losing interest. That 3rd down conversion with Manning scrambling and Burress catching it on his head was awesome.

I think the whole public safety/fear of violence thing is a bit hilarious. I mean sure, we don't want to ignore it and let things get worse, but jesus christ people, settle the fuck down! My friend just moved here from Harlem and people here are so fucking worked up and hysterical they had him thinking he was in some kind of danger walking around on Capital Hill. I spent all night trying to convince him that, as a 6'3" black man, the only thing he probably has to worry about are all y'all people who are losing your shit about Seattle's "out of control" violence... Well that and the (often times) out of control SPD.

brady looked like rick mirer instead of tom brady. the ny d was awesome. gotta love that play by manning, getting away from that rush to make that killer pass and the receiver catching it with his helmet, i spilled my cuervo shot all over myself!

fatah is doing bombings? shit, i thought it was only hamas and the martir's brigade. that is really gonna mess things up. there goes any chance for peace.

@14 - Seriously? You say Capital Hill isn't that bad compared to Harlem? I feel better already!

@ 13: It was Tyree that caught that 1st down pass against his helmet. Minor point, but I had to correct the record...

@14, Wow! Safer than Harlem! I feel GREAT now. But are we safer than the South Side of Chicago?

Harlem is safe these days, whats not safe is the damn rents, it is expensive as hell.

Now if he had said, were safer than east Baltimore or southeast DC than i would be impressed.

i think the point, though badly made, is that people get too freaked out when crime happens in their neighborhood, and well, people should, and is hard for people to recognize.

1) this city is pretty damn safe
2) violent crime is way down
3) seattle was actually more violent in the late 80's early 90's , but there were no blogs for people to get freaked out about.

Hmmm, I never mentioned Capitol Hill in my post. I don't live on the Hill. I am not hysterical about crime. I realize it was way down last year. However, there have been a spate of murders recently (4 or 5 in January). There were a total of 24 last year, and 30 or so in 2006. It is not acceptable to say that "we don't have as much crime as..." I bet those who have been battered or the families who are without their loved one wouldn't agree that it's okay.

i dont trust people who are victims of a crime to have a rational opinion on crime frequency.

Harlem's been one of the safest neighborhoods in America for close to two decades. As a byword for crime it isn't even in the running against dozens and dozens of nearby neighborhoods. Try East New York.

I note in the bike safety article the skepticism by actual bike safety experts about bike lanes, which give a false sense of security and in many places make cycling more dangerous, not less.

Of course, Seattle in its typical fashion chooses a compromise that is worse than EITHER of the alternatives, opting to build bike lanes that fade in and out, and car lanes that merge and separate without warning, marked by stoplights that don't correspond to the lanes (a Seattle specialty, that one). Look at the compromised Stone Way: I see near-collisions on that street every day now that they've fucked it up.

Remember, if you'd partied with the Fremont Arts Council at Voodou Carnivale in Fremont this past weekend, you'd have been safer and had way more fun.

Yeah, Brady didn't look like his decisive and accurate self. Didn't help that the Pats' O line got their hats handed to them all afternoon by a dominating Giants D line.

Why not kick the goddamned field goal, though, instead of going on 4th and 13? Arrgh.

Despite my hurt pride, I'll admit that the Giants were easily the better team and they played a great game. Good job. It was a great Super Bowl.

May Don Shula stand forever vindicated.

The stimulus is worthless--we have to pay for it somehow. I love the logic behind that: encourage people to borrow beyond their means and then finance their hardships by piling more debt on them. Genius. More on my blog at http://moretruth.wordpress.com/2008/02/06/news-flash-negative-news-for-profit/
