Usually we don't matter in the national vote. If Clinton had sewn it up, or Obama, we wouldn't matter. But with things so close... suddenly we do matter. A bit.

And pre-Iowa the Clinton campaign got razzed for publishing the wrong date ... but it turns out they were just echoing a page on the Iowa Democrats official website - which published the wrong date!

If this turns out to be an Obama campaign fuckup, I RELISH the apology that I'm sure will be forthcoming from AMB, Reality Check, Bellevue Ave, linus, Cato, Lloyd Cooney, and anyone else who slandered Clinton on this issue without a shred of evidence.

Seems apologies are owed from the knee-jerk accusers on both sides.  I won't hold my breath, though.

The alternative is a state-run and state-paid primary. One of the big problems with that in Washington is that our mail-in voting elections under national party rules officially start the day ballots are mailed out, putting the official date before February 2. Only IA, NH, NV, and SC are allowed to go before that date, which is why the majority of remaining states went on the earliest possible date of 2/5. If the Democrats allocated any delegates by primary, those delegates would not be seated at the convention, just like in Michigan and Florida.
