Monday in the Park

posted by on February 18 at 15:57 PM

Just walked past Vivace and there was a line out the first door, out the second door, and down the ramp. Then I walked to Cal Anderson Park and was almost literally tripping over people. Hot damn, there are a lot of unemployed people in Seattle.

Then I remembered: it’s a holiday.

I've said it before, I'll say it again:

Christopher, is in the park, I wish it was the 4th of July.

Well not only is it a holiday but it's also sunny and warm (for february).

Vivace is Seattle's most overrated coffee shop.

yes it's a holiday...UNLESS you are trying to herd cats (i.e. - pollworkers) the day before an election. in which case, it's just plum effin' crazyland.

Bah. I'm still at work. All this holiday is doing is screwing up the bus schedule.

the line at vivace is retarded, yet there was no way I could bring myself to cross the street to get coffee at peet's instead.

Would that I ever be employed by a company which deems it important to give their employees the day off on Presidents Day. Seriously. Even the banks are still open today.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I don't understand the whole "going out for coffee" thing. I can make like 100 cups of coffee out of a $15 bag. Why pay $2-$3 a cup?

The Wells Fargo in Canyon Creek is open. I don't know about the other banks in the world, but I was up there with my mom just a couple hours ago and the clerk said they would be open all day.

Eh, I'm working today. My office has the holiday off but it's actually a great time to get a lot of work done when it's quiet and the phones aren't ringing. Plus I get to take the holiday at a later date, when there aren't lines out the door at Vivace.

Meh, I keep forgetting that today is a holiday too. Everybody in my office is here today too--no holiday today us.

@9, I can't speak for everyone, but I'm usually not going out for drip, I usually go out for espresso.

It would probably take somewhere between 500-1000 lattes at $3 to make the purchase of a nice espresso machine cost effective.

Plus, I would probably suck at it.

Oh yeah, and baristas are hot.

Having done Vivace numerous times, there's half a dozen coffee places on the Hill alone I'd go to before even considering standing in that ridiculous line for coffee, and no, Peet's isn't one of them.

@9: I 'go for coffee' for a) the social interaction and to break up my day by actually leaving my desk b) the convenience of a single serving rather than having to make a whole pot that no one will drink c) I don't like drip coffee because it hurts my stomache and tastes too strong.

When I'm trying to save money, I make tea.

Same reason to go for coffee as to go out for dinner. Of course you can make dinner at home, but going out is fun.

The ONLY reason to go to coffee is to scout out for a super hot, hung top guy in Seattle....I am still scouting at this point. Haven't found one yet but I have drank lots of coffee on the search.

@9, I've lived here close to 20 years and I still don't understand the need for that "going out for coffee thing." One can get social interaction if you want it (and coffee at home for a lot less $) without adopting this seattle cliche lifestyle affectation. It's just become another way of fitting in, even for supposedly anti-establishment hipsters.

I don't understand how this is even the slightest bit difficult to understand. Going out for coffee is just like "going out" for anything else: you're paying someone to make you something that you don't want to or aren't able to make yourself. It works exactly the same way for pants, groceries, shoes, and plane tickets.

Let's face it, even Starbucks is better than Vivace coffee.
