Last night in the debate, I heard one thing I disagreed with:

"We also need to invest in our infrastructure. We don't have enough roads to take care of the congestion, we have crumbling bridges and tunnels. We need to rebuild America, and that will also put people to work."

Senator Clinton needs to spend more time with the biking, walking, transit crowd.

...which john edwards borrowed from bill clinton...

...which bill clinton probably borrowed from kennedy...

whatever. does anyone really expect to hear a new platitude during a presidential campaign?

Chops at 4: Exactly, which is why is was so lame for Clinton to pick the plagiarism fight in the first place.

Because biking, walking, and transit works everywhere and for all transportation needs?

Eisenhower used to have this kid who played the violin, and they managed to use his skills in their show every year. Their (circa 1993) execution of "Devil Went Down to Georgia" was smashing.

Good God.

Was that the halftime show?

Schmader- Can you please back up your assertion that Clinton borrowed any lines from Edwards? That's a pretty aggressive thing to say without any supporting evidence.

Show choir - Can't. Turn. Away. Damn you Schmader! Damn you!!

Sven: It could be she simply stumbled upon some phrases that were very similar to phrases used by Edwards. Either way, her timing was unfortunate, and the whole "plagiarism" argument is hooey.

dave @ 5 & 15:
i totally agree. 'twas my point as well.

i hope that the one thing hillary comes out of this campaign realizing is that her entire team from mark penn down are total old school dem shitbags who did not serve her with any distinction at all. they went with an old, tired playbook that might have worked in 1991, but does not change with the times. i actually feel bad for the woman. i really think we never got to see "the real hillary" at all. but then again, these are the people she chose, so i guess she's to blame for much of her own failure.

Sven, the claim is based on video number 2 up there. I don't think they're too dissimilar to be compared.
I don't think differently of the candidates because of it-- just helping you find it!

Are you kidding me? Am I supposed to think about Obama and Clinton when you close with that apocalyptic horror - if our culture produces that stuff, then Obama/Clinton = deck chairs on the Titanic. I'm going to curl into the fetus position now, die, and decompose. Bye!

Damn. That is a truly awful cover.

Next week, Dan Savage will post the Broadway version of Metallica's "One."
