Comment by Gay Seattle

Let me explain how things work in Seattle. Seattleites think they want sun but actually sunny days create more anxiety than you even realize. First, the very minute temperatures move above 60 degrees natives start to strut around in shorts, start calling in sick, and do anything to get outside; like playing Frisbee in the medians of city streets. This is much to the chagrin of transplants from warmer places (Eastern Washington, California, etc.) who are simply annoyed by this ritual. But what the sun actually does is create the infamous “Seattle Sunny Day Anxiety” about having to somehow get out and enjoy it while you can, unlike the overcast days of winter when you are content to stay at work, school, etc. In Seattle it’s cool to show up to work all red with a sun burn.
Seattleite to sunburned coworker: “Wow, looks like you got some sun this weekend,” said in a jealous tone of voice.
However, in California getting red and burned is viewed as being just plain stupid.
I have felt this Sunny Day Anxiety for decade Seattle and while we all look forward to sun the anxiety about enjoying it is not fun to deal with.

@3. I know what you mean, but being in the "indoor job" kind of business, I won't begrudge some people some healthy sun days to enjoy. The more people stay outside, the less people inside making my job harder...but then there's the no customers/time dragging by problem too. Oh well, Happy Sun Day!

@9: Summer brings lots of sunny days but it rarely gets to the sweltering inferno point that the rest of the country experiences in July and August. The cloudy, misty drizzle generally starts in early November and lasts to about April.

please let's not pretend that we have no total downpours - some hours, others days

yes it really rains, hard sometimes

the gray sky, misty drizzle is indeed true as well

jul and aug are glory - bright clear, warm, sunny, no rain to speak of, and we all live outside most of the time

I move outside, sleeping on the deck

and the summer skin show is a delight as well, male and female are all on exhibit
